Raining. Vernon is up but didn’t go to school. Throat still sore. Dot was down. Merrill called Cox. Can’t get chicks until 10th.

Did ironing. Got letter from Arlene. Got pattern. Merrill went to Lorraine in evening. Still raining.

Went down to Angie’s. Stopped over home for supper.Merrill came after me. Mom, Ken & Eleanor & Buster were here while we were gone. Oren was here in evening.

Washed clothes. Evelyn was here. Oren & Bill McConnell were here in evening. Oren got us some perch fish. 75 ¢. Many VE celebrations.

VE DAY Tuesday, May 8, 1945. Jimmy & I went up to Barkers. Vernon didn’t have to go to school only about 1/2 hour.

Sent card to Dr. Reed. Letter to Mother T. Merrill helped build fence at Johnny McDonald’s for young stock. Quite cold.

Snowing & cold. Had frost again during night. Got 104 baby chicks from Cox $15.00. Merrill & Jimmy went down to Fred Pitkin’s after them. Set up living room stove again.

Merrill got me box of writing paper. Have 2 inches of snow this morning. Jimmy is sick. Merrill went to Lacona in evening for groceries. Merrill got raise in wages last night. $125.00

Went to Lacona in evening. Got Vernon new shoes $2.75. Got table oilcloth. Sent $26.15 to Spiegel.

Got paper, perfume, book & pin for Mother’s day. Mary Stinson was over for dinner. Lost 3 of my chicks. Raining.

Washed clothes. Dot was down. Rained in afternoon.

Sent letter to Arlene. Had thunderstorms in PM. Our $1.00 alarm clock we have had over 10 years has broke. Has run every day until May 13.

Sent letter to Angie. Sent for play suit pattern. Raining. Went to Lorraine & over home in evening. Lost 1 chick.

Wrote to Lila. Evelyn was down. Raining but warm. Thunder storm.

Still rainy. Jimmy & I went to Oswego with Edith & Dot.

Got letter from Lila. Went to Lacona in evening. Got Jimmy new blue & white wash suit.

Mom & Dad were up for dinner. Vernon & Jimmy went home with them for evening. Merrill & I went to the show. Nice day. Merrill plowed garden.

Turned cows out last night for first. Watkins man was here. Thunder storm in afternoon. Washed clothes. Dad & Uncle Earle got potatoes at Barkers.

Grand day. Started cleaning kitchen. Went to Lacona for groceries in evening. Cut Jimmy’s hair.

Went to church. First time I’ve taken Jimmy to church. Went over home in afternoon. Raining again.

I went to the city with Barkers. Vernon & Jimmy stayed at Mother’s. Got Mom a kettle. Got new dishpan. Got Merrill a pipe. Got order from Wards, cloth for dresses.

Merrill mowed lawn. Started my dress.

Vernon didn’t go to school. Sore throat. Dot helped paper kitchen ceiling. Merrill went to Adams. Sent card to Aunt Mildred. Oren & Marie are engaged.Got dress pattern.

Dot & I finished papering kitchen. Wrote Marg. Got graduation invitation from Lila. Still raining.

A grand day at last. Washed clothes. Did up curtains. They started planting potatoes.

Jimmy & I went to Adams on bus. Visited school & Aunt M. Got window shades. Got letter from Angie. Nice day.

Evelyn & Arlene were down. Got pictures. Vernon stayed down at Aunt Mildred’s for weekend. Went to Lacona for groceries. A nice day.

Still another nice day. Third in a row. Edith & Dot were here. Jimmy & I went up to Barkers & called Aunt Mildred. Went to Lorraine & over home in evening. Merrill got hair cut.

Planted garden. Mom & Eleanor were up in PM. Raining in PM & evening. Oren gave Jimmy chocolate bar.

Sent $40.00 to Spiegel. Raining. Started making play suit. Vernon got home from his visit at Adams. Had a grand time.

Grand day. Washed clothes. Edith, Dot & Evelyn were down. Brought me gold bronze paint to use.

Wrote Aunt Mildred. Vernon did too. Planted corn for first time this year. Started cleaning dining room. Vernon planted glads today.Gilbert entered Marines.

Carl enters Navy. Real hot today. Baked pies & cookies.

Rainy & thunderstorms during day. Wrote to Mother T & Ration Board. Dot & Evelyn were here. Gave Dot glads.

Finished cleaning dining room. Vernon walked up to Mary S in PM. Went to Lacona in evening. Mowed lawns.

Mother & Dad were up in PM. We went looking for potatoes. Merrill fixed car. Merrill & Vernon went fishing. Jimmy, Vernon & I got Merrill box of candy for Father’s Day.

Washed clothes. Rainy day. Got blank for tires from Ration Bboard. Wrote Florence. Evelyn started work at drug store again.

Got letter from Marg. Finished making play suit. Went up to Florence’s in evening. Merrill & Earle went to Redfield.

Got letter from Mother T. & card from Aunt Mildred. Evelyn & Arlene were here. Arlene went to Lorraine & over home with us. Merrill got shoes $5.60. Mother T. sent letter about Loren. Wrote to Lila.
