Diary Entry for 6/1/2000

Nice day. Cool sunny. Jessie here to clean. She went to store for me. Jolie has called twice. I received my Epic card today. It will help on the cost of my medicines. Shirley Marriott cut my hair and set it on my foam rollers. She asked $5. I gave her $6. Jim called in evening.

Rainy. Cleared in evening. Vern’s retirement party at 1850 House at Oswego. Jim and Nancy picked me up at 5 PM. A wonderful party. Vern was so surprised. Dan acted as MC and did an excellent job. Lots of good speakers including Jim. Lots of laughing. Great food. Jolie, Madison, and Shawn Michael stopped by and took me to Kinney’s drug store for first time. I got first eye drops there with Epic card. Jolie combed out my hair.

Sunny. But on the cool side. I’m tired today. It was after 1 AM when I got home. A lazy day. Florence’s phones not working. She used my portable to call telephone company. Jolie called in evening. She stopped by to get my money toward Jim’s gift.

Cloudy cool day. Jolie and Madison here in AM. Also Jim showed up on his bike. Darcia and Anthony came back with Jolie in PM. Centennial Club meeting at 7:30 PM. I went. Good turn out. Vern called in evening. June has sore arms.

They testes all the alarms here today. Very noisy. Lyla, Jolie, Madison Shawn Michael and Jim here for lunch. I made scalloped potatoes and pork chops. Lyla brought me pretty 3 piece blue and white towel set. Very nice. We had nice visit. She was going to see Marion C in rehab.

Partly cloudy.. Jessie 10:30. She went to store for me. I talked with Jolie twice. I went to Matcafe Room to listen to Marion Hewitt play the organ. It was great. She came and told me she was playing. Merrill was taken to Carthage to have his pace maker checked.

Jim’s retirement party at Joe’s Bar. Large turnout. Shirley 1 PM set my hair and dried and combed it out. Vern and June got here about 3 PM. They put rest of clippings in Jim’s album. Arlene Wilson dropped by. We went to Jim’s party at 4 PM. I took potato salad. Nancy took stuff also. They furnished pizza, drinks, and a huge cake for it. He got lots of nice gifts. Vern, June, Jolie, Madison and Carla came back here for a while.

Hot all day. Cooler in evening. 80°. Jolie, Madison, and Carla here in evening. Madison trying hard to creep. She’s so sweet. We didn’t go to see Merrill, as it was so late when Jolie got around.

Cloudy. Much cooler. Carla McGowan drives back to Ohio today. I took a cab to Genesis to see Merrill. $2. And came home by one $3. They took Merrill to Carthage Thursday to have his pacemaker checked. It’s okay. Merrill doing real good. Quite talkative and he knew me.

A nice sunny day. Jolie dropped me off at Genesis. Ken and Esther came as I was leaving. Ken had had blood work done. Jim, Jolie, Shawn Michael, and Madison visited Merrill. Jolie and kids came back here for take out supper from Wendy’s Vi called. Philadelphia Rebekah’s have district installing staff this year. Ginny Delles, DD President. Alice F called for prayer chain for Marion Smith and Marge Heck. Shawn came for Shawn Michael. He is staying for the summer.

Raining hard all day. Jolie and Madison leaves from Syracuse at 3:45 PM. She was busy telling everyone goodbye. Jim took me to my appointment with Dr. LaPoint at 1 PM. He waited until I finished. Jolie stopped to say good bye. Jim and Nancy took her to Syracuse. Dr. LaPoint is Larry and Jan Corey’s daughter. Dr. is pregnant again (August) She found I have a heart murmur. I have to have a colonoscopy and a bone scan.

Cloudy day. Sunny in PM. Very hot. Jim and I went over to Samaritan Keep. Still no opening for Merrill yet. Rebekah’s went to Sackets Harbor for lunch. Nine there. We went to Esther’s later for dessert. I went down to see Marion and Cheryl. Marion doing good. I took Merion cup cakes and chocolate pudding. I dropped the pudding on her floor. Some gift!! Jim left message that Jolie and Madison got home in Washington at 2:30 AM. Two delays and hold overs. I talked with Lyla. Juanita called in evening.

Some sun. some rain. hot and windy. Jessie here. She went to store for me. Rev. Jane called in PM. She is going on vacation for 2 weeks. Then one week as counselor at Aldersgate. She had been to see Merrill. I washed two machines of white clothes. I received appointments fro Dr. LaPoint. I sent letter to Dr. Powell’s office about year old bill.

A nice day. How. Windy. Relay for Life started tonight. I watched parade from my bedroom window. I stopped to see Cora Carr in 115 today. She is an aunt by marriage to Rev. Jane. Also a friend of Mary Chamberlain. Lidia Sovia in #116 left by bus this morning to visit her son in New York. Jolie called from Washington. Zack having trouble because of some friends. I talked with Vi. Cheryl was here. Larry is in hospital at Gouverneur with pancreatis.

Some rain in morning. Relay for life ends. Jim here in AM. He slept on ground by his bike last night. They made more money this year. I have a congestion in my nose and throat. Jill took me to Kinney’s for pills. We got a sub and ate it here. Jim called in evening. He isn’t feeling good tonight.

Cooler. Rainy y spells. I took a cab to and from to visit Merrill. He was so glad to see me and worried about me coming home. He didn’t want me to leave. He will be on 2nd floor starting next Saturday. Jim called in evening. He’s still sick. Has been in bed all day. I got several letters and graduation money gifts ready to send. I called Arlene Wilson on phone.

Sunny and rain by spells. Jessie here to clean. Meeting at Genesis at 4:30 to see new rooms. Jim and Ashley came for me. They dropped me off to see Merrill. Jim and I went to talk on Alzheimer’s by Debbie Scholes and then toured north second. Very nice. So clean. Blue and white.

A nice day. Muggy in PM. I called Vern and June in AM. June still having tests. They have ruled out several things. Vern and June came in PM. We went to see Merrill in his new 2 North room. They moved them all today. Went well. Vern went to Philadelphia to Amish place for fence rails. They stayed for supper. June brought everything for supper. Even 2 quarts of fresh strawberries for short cake. Everything so good. Jim and Nancy here on bike in evening. They went to Tupper Lake and Blue Mountain today.

Rainy and sunny by spells. Very windy. Warm and muggy. Lazy day. I’ve coughed a lot today. Jill and Jim both called. Jim and Walt have been out to Philadelphia cleaning stuff out of garage.

Hot, sunny. June’s birthday. I forgot about it until this morning. I set her card, note and money. Jill came after work and took me to shopping plaza to Kinney’s and Crosby’s. She stayed for supper with me.

Cooler. Cloudy. I ordered free talk back phone from Bell Atlantic. Will take 6 weeks for delivery. Nancy, Jim, Shawn Michael and Ashley stopped by. Nancy went to eye doctor. She has shingles in her eye. Vi M called in PM. Susie’s husband’s parents have rented one of Jim’s apartments on Wardwell, Adams. Shawn Michael and Ashley enjoy being together as always. It was good to have them here. They talked about the good times they had playing with Kristen and Sarah at Philadelphia.

Nice summer day. Conference for Merrill at Genesis. Jim and I went. Merrill sleeping most of time while we were there. Echogram Ultra sound at Dr. Willis’s office. Jim took me there and also for eye crops at Kinney’s. Rebekah’s meeting at Vivian’s. Last one until fall. Jolie called. She goes back to work tomorrow where she worked before. Florence’s sister died this morning of cancer. I received letter saying I will have to pay my one Medicare Insurance.

Cloudy day. Jessie here 10 AM to 12. She did my washing. I made macaroni salad. I called office for the aging about a medical insurance to supplement my Medicare. They are sending some one to talk to me. I used new phone service for first time. The operator looked up the number for me and rang it for me. I stopped taking Evista Harmone to learn if it is causing my cough.

No rain. Sunny and cool. Key bank near here at Washington Street was robbed today by a young man riding a bike. It is in tonight’s Times that Jim is seeking the under sheriff’s job. It says he is buying a house in the city. I sorted things in my bedroom closet. Debbie called from California in evening.
