Diary Entry for 11/1/1971

Dr. Roberts, 3:30 PM. Millicent and I went to city. Everything OK but I must loose weight, 10 or 15 pounds. Merrill planned to help Richard lay wall but blocks didn’t come. Another nice day. I cooked onions and celery in evening. Also cored cabbage. Made fudge for bazaar.

Diary Entry for 11/2/1971

Election Supper. I’m chairman for 10th time. Good crowd. Cleared $265.80. We voted in morning, 85 and 86. Went up to church at noon. Real busy all day. Got home at 8:45. Stormy day off and on. Some of roof blew off Lodge Hall.

First snow flurries. No killing frost yet. Kept cows in for first both day and night. We went to Jim and Pat’s. Their bedroom looks nice with new carpet, doors and closet. Left urine samples with Dr Robert’s. Got groceries at P&C. Jim’s gave us fireplace matches and crytalon [?].

Merrill took car to Gouverneur for ball joints, also plugs and points. Cost, $74.96. I scrubbed kitchen walls. Painted spots where paint was off. Real hard killing frost last night. First one. Wrote Vern’s. Called Harriet for hair appointment.

H. Palmer, hair appointment at 10:30 AM. Got out at 1:30. Cost $12 now. I went to Theresa for perculator basket. Wrote letter to boy, Victor Johnson, 28. In California Prison Hollywood Jesus People=Free Paper [?] Very cold all day.

Wrote Mom. Got note from June. They aren’t coming until Sunday for dinner. I made 5 tins of dinner rolls. Merrill put 4 heifers in barn. One knocked him down. Made bunch on back of his head. Snowed off and on all day. Went to Lodge in evening. I installed Mary Hall.

Wrote Vern’s. Bible Study group met at Parsonage to hear Rev. Jack Stanley. He was very good. Talked on Holy Spirit. Merrill took car to Gouverneur to have it adjusted. We went to city for groceries. Also to Fays. Mary called in evening. Sharon having eye problems. Dr. doesn’t know what it is.

Merrill got hair cut at Theresa. Washed clothes. Dyed curtains and rugs. Cleaned house. Patty called in evening. Jim is sick with cold so they can’t come Sunday to have Jolie baptized. Called Rev B and Vern’s. Plan to do it November 28th.

Sent letter to Rebekah’s Pres. recommending Lillian Neuwrath to receive certificate of Proficiency. Fried triple batch of donuts. Merrill started plowing by house. Bill and Vi here in evening. Enjoyed the Ben Franklin stove. Called Pat. Jim better and working at Fays. He went to former police, Ed Curtin’s funeral.

Heard Rev. Bob Harrington on radio for first time, 7:20 AM, 98 on radio CKWS. We went to Sunday School and church. Rev. Bird attended church with his mother. We went to Grants store in PM. I got new boots, $9.97 and purse $3.99. Both black.

Sewing Lesson I for Beginners, 1 PM. all here but Sharon, Debby, Nora and Linda. Linda Dimon came. Jim and Pat and Jolie here in PM and evening. Jolie has her first cold. She is getting so big. Send Debby card, note and $1. Jim had fire in fire place. Roasted marshmallows.

My 54th birthday. Mom called in morning. We went to Church. It was full. Wilson’s granddaughter baptized. Rev. Jack Stanley preached. We went to Jim and Pat’s for dinner. Lovely dinner. Kids gave me box of candy. Jolie a cute card. Merrill gave me boots. Vern’s called in evening.

No school. Wrote Uncle Berl. T. Knox, Theresa pumped out septic tank, $32.10. I went to Theresa for groceries in morning. Washed bedding. Did ironing. Eleanor, Roberta, Holly and Jeff Weaver here for supper and evening. Had been shopping.

Jolie Elaine Tryon baptized by Rev Charles Blankenship at Philadelphia Methodist Church. Also, Bob LaFave’s son. Brian and Elaine Phillips were Jolie’s Godparents. 14 here for dinner. Vern’s came about 1:30. Audrey and Hacker, Phillips and Jim’s here. Jim and Pat went to Fays store party in evening at VFW.

Snow plow was over for first time this fall. About 10 inches of snow overnight. Roads very slippery. I went to Bible Study with Pearl. We went to city shopping. Got winter rubbers for boys. Two accidents near Mills. Merrill ordered snow bucket, $113.
