Diary Entry for 6/1/1974

Planted flower seeds. Wrote Uncle Berl. Fireman’s Field Days at Philadelphia. Merrill worked at Horton’s in PM. I sat in sun and got first tan this summer. There was a rainbow around the sun in a circle. Beautiful sight. Got card from Ruth in Mexico. 4-H Walk-A-Thon to Rodman.

Diary Entry for 6/2/1974

Cop Doug Slade, 34, hurt bad on bike. Picnic and baptismal at Taylor’s camp. We didn’t go. Went to church. Went for ride Antwerp way and stopped at Aunt Maude’s. Dave and Kathy have part of wall form ready for cement. We went over to Bill and Brenda’s in evening. Nice day.

I called Arts and Brenda. Ordered flowers from NY Florist for Aunt Esther, $15. Jim, Pat and Jolie here for lunch. Merrill worked at Horton’s all day. Nice day. Hot 83°. Called Vern’s in evening. Jim brought me Amway water softener.

4-H. Only 8 came. Aunt Esther’s funeral. Aunt Maude and Lila went with us. Merrill had machine head repaired at Talcott Falls, $19. TV wasn’t fixed. Will cost $35-40 Got graduation invitation from Terry Hall.

Very nice day. Hot. I did up ironing that has been collecting for weeks. Washed Merrill’s work clothes. Merrill worked at Horton’s. Got graduation invitation from Dennis Haggerty. Ruth Eg and Ronnie got home from trip.

We went to church. 4 graduates there. We ate lunch at Benton’s Restaurant. We went to Fays. Saw Jim there working. I got webbing for chairs. Got eye drops. Took pictures of Brenda and Bill’s place. Got album to send Uncle Berl.

Very hot all day. Tornadoes at Lorraine and Ellisburg at 7 PM. Merrill worked at Horton’s in PM. Jim, Pat and Jolie here for supper. Sent Blue Cross payment for May. Called Dr. Roberts. Blood test excellent.

Cold and windy. Last Bible Study until fall. I went with Ruth, Pearl, and Carol. Merrill went to Agway at city for motor for water pump, $36. He worked at Horton’s in PM. Mrs. Thompson called in evening to say TV is fixed, $33.49. We went after it in evening.

Rebekah’s, 14 out to it. I called at Philadelphia funeral home for Clara Hall Miller on the way to Lodge. Merrill worked at Horton’s in PM. Cool and rainy. Washed my hair. Put color rinse on it.

Nice day. We went to Sackets Harbor. Had lunch at Jim’s. Merrill ordered blocks and lumber for barn at Lanphere. I stopped at Country Inn to see about Rebekah’s Banquet. Boots and I went to Philadelphia for groceries in evening.

Flag Day. Merrill got cards from Vern’s. Merrill mowed lawns. Lanphere brought stuff for barn wall, $126.91. I baked pumpkin pies, pumpkin bread, molasses cookies, chocolate cup cakes and ice cream bars. Diane called to say Nettie Smith had willed Lodge something, PNG Jewel.

We went out to Moms for dinner. Uncle Lloyd came up for dinner. Don ate with us also. Rained about all day. Ken came to Mom’s as we were leaving. I called Roberta. Sunday School picnic today. We didn’t go to church.

Mom’s 82nd birthday. Merrill worked on barn wall all day. Wrote Vern’s. Pastor-Parish meeting at CEC. I went. Called Country Inn in evening to make reservations for June 20th, 15 to 20 people.

Nice day. Send Dennis H. $3 for graduation. Gave Terry $3 also. Merrill worked at barn wall. I washed dining room curtains, windows and woodwork. We went to Antwerp tax grievance board with Halls and Hales. Halls came in for coffee.

PNG’s went to Country Inn, Sackets, 5:30. Some of us went to Sackets first. Went to museum. Stopped at Jim’s. Also Seaway on way home. Phone out all day. I went to Hales to use theirs in morning. Jim called Merrill in PM.

Boots and I went to Philadelphia for groceries. Jim, Pat and Jolie brought baby furniture to store. Told us they are expecting in February. Here for supper. Rainy. Merrill worked at barn.

We got notice they have lowered our assessment to $9100. Up $1600 from last year. $3150 land, and $5950 buildings. Rained off and on all day. Hail storm. Merrill started mowing front lawn. I went to Hales to call phone company. Georgia Blankenship’s 10th birthday.

Cool but no rain. We went to church. Merrill mowed rest of lawn in PM. Gladys and Ted Lamen stopped by in early evening. We went over to Bill and Brenda’s after ladder in evening. Called Aunt Keitha. Lyle still in hospital.

June’s 36th birthday. Rebekah’s last meeting until September. 11 present. We went to Igloo for ice cream after Lodge. If is being enlarged. Will be nice. Bill D went after more cement blocks for Merrill at Taylor’s. 24 @$.34. Washed clothes.

Vern called in morning. Are coming up Sunday for the day. Boots and I went for groceries. Merrill finished laying cement blocks. Made rolls. Washed Merrill’s clothes. Howard and Evelyn were over for coffee.

Uncle Lloyd here when I got up. He got to Aunt Maude’s at 10 AM yesterday. He and Merrill went over to help Bill on his barn but he was sawing lumber. Merrill and Uncle Lloyd went for ride to Oxbow, Antwerp etc. Cleaned.

Got letter from Beulah Hall. I have had glaucoma 4 years ago today. Rained off and on all day. Merrill mowed lawn between showers. Alton’s longhorn cattle auction. Small crowd. Carl Horton and kids here in PM.

Vern and June and boys got here about 9:30. Vern and June went to church with Merrill, communion. They left about 7 PM. Nice visit. Vern showed slides of his Korea trip. Rained off and on all day.
