UMW, 6:30 covered dish at CEC, 17 present. Election of officers. Marilyn Compeau, Pres. I’m Vice Pres., Esther, Secretary, Vi, treasurer. Collected $30 for Ruth Stewart. Packed 4 boxes for Marjorie Nellis. I sent 4-H report for club. Couldn’t get Lisa on phone. Phones out all around. Ours is OK.

Dr. Sommer’s, 11:10. He took first impressions. Also smoothed off bottom tooth. Got groceries at Philadelphia. 4-H Business meeting. 9 members, 3 guests. Isabelle and Annamaria Brancatella, from New Jersey, and Kenny L. Merrill went to Mills. Saw Brenda.

Diary Entry for 12/8/1975

2 mini busses started running at Watertown today on the main street. We went to Antwerp for gift for Jim, jig saw. I made applesauce cake and chocolate chip cookies in evening. Got Christmas card from Charlotte and Francis J. McGregor Jr., Sodus. Washed my hair.

Dr. Sommer’s, 10:30. Worked on impressions. I didn’t go to Bible Study. Got home at 12:30. Sent Roy card and letter. Got card and $10 from Dot M. Jim, Pat and girls here for lunch and supper. Merrill and Jim went over to Bill and Brenda’s to help put on ceiling tile. Snowy and rainy and freezing.

Got anniversary card from Jim’s. Roy’s birthday. Icy. The guy came from Canton to check cows. Three still bad. Merrill worked at Brenda’s in PM. Rebekah’s, 6:30 covered dish supper. PNG’s after Lodge. 20 out. Nice time. Lois Loury my new Secret Pal. Marguerite had my name. She gave me cute bracelet.

Our 40th anniversary. George Waters gave Merrill tie pin and me bracelet for our anniversary. I bought bolo tie for Uncle Berl and Vern. I got ring. Went to Dr. Sommer. They called for 3rd filling. Got card from Vern. We went to LeRay Restaurant for supper. Got order from Sears.

A nice day but cold. I sent packages to Uncle Berl and Lettie, a telephone note file and bolo. Sent Dot hat and mitten set and cross neckless. Left can goods at Leah’s for Sammy Sampson family. I helped at covering boxes for Sunday School program.

Hair cut appointment, Donna’s, 2 PM. Merrill and I helped Horton family decorate church. Men put up manger on church lawn. Aunt Maude called in evening. I sent first Christmas cards. Benefit dance at Legion for Sammy Sampson.

We went to church. 96 out. Nice sermon. MYF went to Samaritan Keep Home with gifts and program in PM. We went up to Philadelphia and put evergreens from Esther around manger. Got tree at Shell station, spruce, $3. Mrs. Cameron called in evening. Catholics are using CEC. Addressed cards.

I got B-12 shot at Marilyn’s. I went to city shopping afterwards. Got just about everything. Raining about all day. Colder in evening. Washed in evening. Called 4-H Jr. Leaders about Banquet. Got Christmas cards from Rose P. and Lamon’s from Florida.

I went to Bible Study. No more until next year. 4-H leaders dinner dance at Northside, 7:30. Marie and Linda Hall went with us. Lynn, Mary, Lorraine, and Kevin went. Turkey dinner. They danced, Laura Payne sang. Her grandmother and Uncle took her. Jim’s here for lunch and PM.

Cold and stormy in PM. We went to city in Am. Had to go to Ennis for spreader parts. Took shut-in basket to Gladys Simonds, Norm Ivey, Lyle Bylow and Emma Hunt. Finished Christmas shopping. I made fudge. Wrapped more gifts. Washed my hair in evening.

Sunday School program. Cantata at 11:15 service. Just great. 105 there. The church was full in evening. Beautiful service. “Jesus is the Rock”. June Anderson found frozen by her car about 9 AM. May have had heart attack. Wrapped gifts.

Christmas Eve candlelight service, 8 PM, Philadelphia. Good turn out. We went. Had our gifts in evening. Merrill gave me dining room light. I gave him suit outfit and shoes. June called in PM. Dan has scarlet fever so they can’t come Friday. Lorraine invited us over in evening. We didn’t go.

Diary Entry for 12/26/1975

Raining, snowy and sleety in AM. Jim, Patty, Jolie and Jill, Mr. Puffer and Vicky here for Christmas dinner, 4 PM. Jim’s gave me chenille robe, Merrill coveralls. Jolie stayed for weekend. Weather better in evening. Roads slippery.
