20 below zero during night. WSCS at Leah’s. I have program. Charlotte and Ivan Hales baby boy born dead. Cold all day. Merrill went to city for tractor part and groceries. Jim better. He got hair cut. I made bread.

Vi, Lois H and I went to Carthage Lodge. My first January visit. Quite snowy. Merrill and I took out tree and decorations. I made donuts. Got letter from June. Jim went to city. Agway put in feed pipe.

Very stormy all day. School closed early . Jim cleaned his bedroom, rearranged it. I washed clothes. Did some of ironing. Sent Charlotte card and letter. Jim helped Kenny lay linoleum at his apartment in Philadelphia. Washed my hair.

We got letter from Brenda. Clara Zufelt very bad from stroke. Stanley Haggerty was married New Years eve in Las Vegas. Merrill and I went to city for groceries. Wrote Vern’s. Jim got Christmas gift from Linda Bruins from California, Cologne. Aunt Maude called in evening.

Ken’s 48th birthday. Snowy. Jim got notice from City Police Dept. his agility test is Friday, January 12 at 6:30 pm at YMCA. Jim went over to Keichels. Merrill plowed out driveways real good.

New postal rates start. Letters 6¢ airmail 10¢. Cold. We didn’t go to church as Merrill didn’t get work done in time. Mary Hall called. Bertha has operation in morning. Jim went to Theresa to Toby’s. First heart transplant performed in US in California.

Philadelphia Rebekahs. My official visit with APW and International . I got to lodge but very cold. 24 below. Jim went to show with Toby. Merrill went to Gouverneur for heater hose, thermostat, etc., $17.00. Grant store at Gouverneur burned.

20 below° at 7 am. Jim got his gun permit in mail. He went to city for his guns. Merrill and I went to city for groceries. Was 18 above this pm. Sure seems good. First time about zero in 6 days. Got letter from Uncle Berl.

Jim didn’t go to scuba lesson. Rebekahs at Antwerp. Too stormy so didn’t get there. Snowing and blowing all day. Merrill cleaned with cleaner for me. Got letter from Beulah Hall. My burned hand much better but still very sore. Washed clothes. 16 below in evening.

Evans Mills Rebekahs. Vi and I went. Roads glare ice all the way. Had vet for cow. Jim went out to police department. Has to go back tomorrow to find out about reference reports. He asked Matt, Carl Keichels, and Mrs. Decker. Some police live in Brighten Hotel.

Merrill’s accident insurance due, $15.00. Theresa Rebekahs. I went by myself from here. Roads slippery. I took Mary Hall and Lorraine to hospital to see Bertha. I visited Bertha, Mrs. Hewitt, and Phil Buker. I got snow boots, $6.99. and 2 piece green dress. Jim went to city.

Doreen’s 11th birthday. Jim has appointment with city manager Forbes at 1:30 for final interview. Jim was accepted on city police force. Starts Monday night 8-4 am. Got his uniforms etc. Snowing in AM. Jim rented room at 625 Washington Street @ $45.00 per month. Took bandage off burn.

We all went to church. Merrill and I went up to Uncle Lens in PM. Abby, Bob and boys were there. Jim went to city to new room. Took out more stuff. Beautiful day. Roads icy across Camp Drum. Other roads mostly bare now.

Jim starts job as city policeman. Works 8 pm-4 am for first month. He got ready here. Philina Buker, 72 died last night of heart attack. Merrill and I went to Carthage. I went to chiropractor for first, $5.50 Carry Ward asked Merrill to be bearer for Philina.

I canceled Natural Bridge Rebekahs because of Phil’s wake. Rebekahs had service at funeral home. About 25 out. Mary went with me. Merrill got hair cut. Send wedding present to Norma in Texas, silver butter dish and cream and sugar and tray set.

Rebekahs. Vi, Esther and I on committee. Esther and Vi were sick so Carrie and Lois helped me. Merrill and I went to Philina Bakers funeral home at Theresa. Wrote mother T and sent card to Todd Keichels.

4-H committee visit here in am. Gerry Fink and Charlie Rowland came. Very helpful. Was 15° below. Jim came home at 4:45 am when he got off work. He likes it. Jim and I went to city for groceries. I called Mom. Ken has been sick.

Jim goes to work at 8 pm. Sent land taxes, $198.78. Warmer. 4-H here at 7 pm. Lesson III, Food, Let’s Begin. 8 kids here. Toby here for supper. His brother Richard got married today. Snowing in late evening.

We went to church. Toby here for dinner. He leaves at 4 pm for Binghamton for a week. Nice day. 20°. Lazy day. Sharon called to ask for cake for girl Girl Scout Smorgasbord. Jim went to Ken and Eleanor’s from city.

Antwerp’s Rebekahs. Jim off work today. Vi, Myrtle and I went with Jim Hanlon and Lois. Nice meeting. They had musical program before meeting. Jim came home in evening. Bought a 32 revolver, $25.00. Merrill went to Lodge. Washed my hair. Made chili.

Jim off work today. WSCS at Carrie Thompson’s. Merrill and I worked on income tax in PM. Jim planned to move into 3 room apartment at 807 Washington St., $70.00. Jim’s name in Times (paper) Test mark 86.5%

Girl Scout Smorgasbord. Cake. Merrill and I went to city for groceries. Jim called in evening. They aren’t moved yet. Jim is working 3 hours a day at Fays @ $2.50. He started yesterday. His picture was in Times from scuba class graduation.

Appointment with Dr. Reukweld, 2:15 pm. Third appointment. Merrill and I went to Carthage. 4-H here at 4 pm. We made a spaghetti supper. All here but Donna and Jeff. Jeff has flu. Snowing in PM. Wrote Mom. 4-H finished project, Food, Let’s Begin. 4th session.

4° at 7 AM. We went to church. Toby here for lunch. Jim didn’t get home today. He called in evening. Slept until 4. The new Madison Square Garden arena opened in NY city tonight with a Bob Hope USO show. Very cold in evening.

Finished Income Tax. Sent Dan and Steve Valentines. Rev. Hutchinson here to make out my Membership and Evangelism report. Jim home for supper. He and Jimmy Decker to spend first night in new apartment. Snowing in PM. Roads slippery. Got letter from Norma. Wrote Vern’s.

Natural Bridge Rebekahs. Vi and I went with Lois and Jim Hanlon. Snowing. They had 6 out. Nice time. Got Valentines from PNG Secret Pal. Got letter from June and Vern. Jim came home this morning for cleaner. He is cleaning their apartment. Sent tax, $218.47

Fred Tryon went in service, was drafted. Rebekahs. I didn’t go as driveway was full of snow. Jim works all day at Fays. Toby came up in evening and got stuck in driveway. Toby’s girlfriend Karen having trouble at home. Mother gave her black eye. Sent Mother Tryon card and letter.

Club meeting at Martha’s. Pillow lesson. Only six out. Jim works all day at Fays. Snowing in morning but nice in PM. Terrible stormy in Pulaski, Oswego and Boonville. Lois and Carols 23rd anniversary.

Very windy. Snow blowing terrible. Roads closed on Route 81 and 11 between Adams Center and Central Square in evening. Washed. Jerry Bartlett and Mike Van Tassel in bad accident on Route 37. Jerry has broken neck.

Quarterly Conference covered dish dinner after church. Rev. Ott to preach sermon. We went to church. Stayed for dinner and meeting. 41 at dinner. Nice meeting. Jim here for awhile in pm. Vern and June called. Roads closed out of city. Over 200 cars stranded.

PM Grands at Esther’s. I went. Merrill went to Lodge. Mid winter vacation this week. Appointment with Dr. Reukweld at 2:15 pm. 4th one. Still stormy in Pulaski, Oswego section. Nice day here, 32 degrees.
