Diary Entry for 4/1/2003

Mostly cloudy. Cold. Snowed in PM. I went to exercise class. Nine present. Lee and her helpers put up Easter decorations. Jessica Lynch 19 USA war prisoner rescued from Iraq today. She has two broken legs and a broken arm.

31° and 25°. Terrible weather. Snow. Freezing rain and sleet. I went to exercise class. Ten of us there. I put a yellow bow on my door along with my USA flag today in honor of the brave military folks. Juanita called this morning. Holly was helping Ken make out papers for the flea market. Coby Slate here in PM. He said Glenn Coon is in hospital. He wants to go into a nursing home. Jim and Ken went to see Lawyer Leyden.

A very stormy day. All schools closed. Oswego declared in a state of emergency because of ice. Power off, phones out and trees down. I got call through to Vern and June on their cell phone. They are on the way to get a room over night to get warm. Jim cut his left middle finger off to first knuckle in his snow blower. He chose not to have it sewn back on. Juanita and I have talked four times today. Sherri called in evening for prayer chain for Danielle. Baghdad airport occupied today. Tom Block fell and broke his ankle in his apartment.

Another bad day. Windy. Cloudy all day with rain and snow. I went for coffee and donuts. Power off here for 2 hours from 6:30 – 8:30 AM. Juanita called. Vern called on way back to motel from Oswego for 2nd night. Steve’s and Dan’s are both without power. Madison and Jolie called at supper times. Jim N called about church.

28° and 17°. A sunny day. Cold. I didn’t go to church. Jim went. He brought me bulletin. They started $4 lunch after church. I talked with Jim. His hand not too sore. Vern called about 5:30. They got their power on this PM. Dan’s on also. Juanita called in evening.

Cloudy and cold. I called hospital. I go for therapy tomorrow at 1 PM. Jim’s doctor’s appointment in Syracuse at 11 AM. Ken’s lawyer’s appointment in Oswego at 2:30. Jim is taking him. I called Jim. His doctor’s appointment was canceled but he didn’t know until he got there. He and Ken saw Ken’s lawyer in Oswego. They stopped at Vern and June’s. I went to Centennial meeting. Vicki Mattingly spoke on things we can do here.

32° and 24°. A cloudy day. Some snow flurries. I took cab to and from hospital. I had exam for therapy starting Thursday. I went to exercise class. Dawn away until April 20. Vi called. Juanita called in evening.

Mostly sunny all day. 41° and 27°. The troops have taken over most of Baghdad. Saddam’s 40 foot statue pulled down. I did hand washing some clothes. I played Pedro in evening. Vern called in evening. They are coming for Easter. Steve’s and Dan’s also.

Nice sunny day. 48° and 16°. Roger Livingston and Phyllis Dobson brought me a white rose plant from Civic League. My 2nd therapy at hospital. I had 30 minutes of exercises. I walked over and back. Sue B called for prayer chain. Larry weaver is dead. Jim called in evening Esther called him from Florida.

56° and 26°. A read nice sunny day. I washed clothes in PM. Lyla called in evening. She said Boyce Roggie is real bad and not expected to live. I had a ham dinner from church tonight. $7. Very good as usual. Jessica Lynch 19, POW returned to USA to Walter Reed Hospital.

A nice day. Partly cloudy. I went to church with Jim Nash. Sherri didn’t go. Choir had a nice Easter cantata. Very good. I went to service here in PM. Their choir did a lovely cantata. Coby Slate called in PM. Jolie called on her way home from North Carolina. Vern called in evening. Want Vi and I to come down next month. Seven POW’s released.

63° and 31. A great day. Sunny but not too bright. I washed bed linens. I talked with Vi twice. She wants to move here May 1st. Juanita called. Ken and Esther were at her house yesterday. Jim called in evening. He met with Ken, Esther, Hollis, Roberta and Billy at Ken’s today.

75° and 55°. Sunny. Very windy. Esther called in morning. They appreciate Jim’s help. I walked to and from therapy. I almost blew away. I got Vi a phone at Granny’s Attic. Jim flies to Florida in PM. I talked with him before he left. 15.000 women are fighting in the war. I ordered groceries from Whites Meat Market. To be delivered tomorrow.

Much colder today. Some rain and sleet. Dorothy D here to check phone for Vi. Wendy called to say she would deliver my groceries tomorrow. She has a bad cold. Juanita called in PM. She has Jericho this week. I played Pedro in evening. Hope called me to ask if I used the Jaws computer program. She also asked if my window still leaks.

45° and 22°. Cold but sunny. Quite windy. I walked to and from the hospital for therapy. I talked with Lyla in evening. Florence brought me a piece of pineapple cake for lunch. Wendy brought groceries from White’s Meats for first time. Virginia P stopped by.

62° and 45°. Cloudy day. Some rain. I went for coffee and donuts in morning. I got stuff ready for tomorrow. Sherri called in AM. She isn’t going to church but Jim is. Jill called in evening. We had nice visit. Jim called her. He is starting home tomorrow on his bike all alone.

77° and 53°. A great summer day. Windy. I didn’t get to church. Jim N brought me bulletin. Vern, June, Steve’s. Dan’s, Shawn Michael, Jill, Joel here. Jim called twice. He’s on the way home from Florida. He is at Jolie’s tonight. Will be home tomorrow probably. The kids are so cute. They had an Easter egg hunt in my bedroom. We had a delicious diner. Everyone brought a lot.

62° and 53°. Mostly cloudy. A few showers. Vi called. She gets her apartment on Friday the 25th. We will plan to go to Vern and June’s the 8th and 9th of May. I sent checks to Epic and Watertown internists. I called Joel. Jim called him from Jolie’s this morning. Lyla called in evening. I called June in evening. Vern was having a meeting there.

Cloudy day. I didn’t go for therapy. I rode bike down stairs. I went to exercise class. Dawn brought us each a bag of surfside sand and some salt water toffee. Joel called. Jim still at Jolie’s. Coby Slate here in PM. Vi called and asked me to go with them to a roast beef supper at the Elks.

36° and 30°. Ground covered with snow this morning. Cold. Jim is supposed to come home today. A cold day to ride so far. Vi called in PM. I went to supper at Elks Lodge with Vi and Susie. Very good. $6.50. Benefit of Allison’s dance class. I called Jim at 10:30. He had just gotten home. He got to Jill’s at 6 PM. He has to go to Syracuse tomorrow for back check up.

A nice warm day. I didn’t go to exercise class. I had appointment with Dr. Powell at 10:30. I have to go back in a month. Hospital therapy at 12:45. I cancelled as Dr. Powell said I could do it at home. Para Transit bus can’t pick me up at door anymore, but at regular bus stops. It is quite a ways to walk to it.

Raining all day. Public sale here at Granny’s Attic. I saw Vi’s apartment. She, Chuck, and Allison came to sale. I have a terrible pain in my right thigh. Comes and goes. Sherri called. Also Vi. I called Jim.

Cloudy in AM. Sunny in PM. I didn’t go to church. Vi was here. I gave her bedroom draperies, light blue. I let her borrow one of my rooster lamps. I went up to Vi’s apartment in PM awhile. Chuck, Sue and Allison are helping her. I watch final episode of “Touched by an Angel” on TV. It is sad to see such a good show end after so many years.

57° and 40°. Not much sun but a great day. I went to exercise class. We had it at 8:30 AM. Jim called at suppertime. He’s been cleaning his lawns. Joel is going to work at restaurant as the cook at Cracker Barrel. Vi called in evening. She’s quite nervous about coming here to stay.

A summer day. Great. Vi Mowers moved into 221 upstairs here. Jeff, Brian, Sue and girls moved her. I stopped in to see them after playing Pedro. Her place looks great. Shirley cut my hair this forenoon. $6. I got box of checks from bank.
