Jim’s 31st birthday. They were here for supper. Made him ice cream cake. Gave him cutting tool and $5. They brought tomatoes and cukes from Vern’s. 16 million raised in MS telethon $235,000 in North Country.

UMW at CEC. Margaret K. on committee. 16 members and 4 Griffin kids present. Cheryl H. also sang. Wrote Mom. I canned 20 quarts tomatoes. Merrill went after Aunt Maude’s canner. Started pickles. Merrill got rubber boots at Pearls, $10.69.

Dr. Roberts, 4:30. Dr. Roberts said he got married in August. His new wife is an accomplished harpist. I went to city alone. Merrill had to build fence. Called 4-H office in evening about meeting. Nice day.

Nice day. Marg and Roy went to Paynes Lake, and Pulpit Rock. Marg, Roy and Mom went up to Aunt Maude’s. Took her ripe cukes from Vern’s. Got letter from Uncle Berl. Called Sears about stove. Will come on Friday.

President Nixon pardoned on Watergate. Vern goes to Washington, DC. We went for ride around Philadelphia. Went to store. Lisa, Donna, Nora and Linda here. Cloudy day. Phone out in AM. Merrill called repairman from Hales.

Aunt Keitha goes to Seattle Washing for winter. Mom, Roy and Marg left about 10 AM. I canned 1 quart of pears and 5 cans chili sauce. Neighbor’s night at Rebekah’s. 24 there. I went. Leah had meeting. Betty R was working. Nice day.

Raining off and on. We went to Philadelphia for groceries. Merrill started digging up Iris. Jim, Pat, and Jolie here for supper. He had to go to work at 8 PM. I canned 2 cans pears. Gave a few tomatoes to Lorraine B. Camp Drum is now called Fort Drum.

Sears repairman here. Thermostat on stove burned out. Will be 2 weeks before part is here. I renewed Readers Digest with Debbie Guttering. Merrill dug up Iris and Jonquil bulbs. Got 30 pound tin of berries and 12 boxes of vegetables. Got thank you from Doreen for graduation gift. Merrill went to Agway.

Bob S called in morning to say Rev. Blankenship has left Philadelphia alone. Meeting at CEC tonight. Superintendent Wood to preach today and have meeting tonight. Merrill and I went to meeting. Went over to Aunt Maude’s afterwards. Had some of Kathy and David’s wedding cake.

4-H Cook Out. All here but Cindy. Kids brought food. Also Shelly Alquire and Mary Hall. A nice time. Went for a ride around meadow. A beautiful day. Very warm. Boots and I went to Philadelphia for groceries.

Rev. Harold Barnard, Adams, in charge of church service. Good turn out at church. Group came with Mattingly’s. Jim, Patty and Jolie here for supper. Jim didn’t work at Fays today. Covered flowers in evening for first.

Had first killing frost last night. Zinnia’s frost bitten even though we covered them. Made green tomato mincemeat, 4 pints. Merrill picked shrub apples, 3 pails. He caulked porch windows. I washed clothes.

Coal is $62 a ton, and gas $49 cents a gallon. Got perm from Donna H. She gave it to me for $10 but I’m sure it cost more. Protein one. Very nice. I went to store. Wrote June and boys. Vern left for Colorado today. We went over to Bill and Brenda’s in evening.

Rained off and on all day. Made green tomato mincemeat, 2 pints and 2 quarts. Merrill and Boots went to Theresa bank. Rebekah’s, Election of officers. Leah NG, Diane VG, Vi Sec, Esther Treas, Marguerite Finan Treas. Sent State taxes, $375.38.

Boots and I went to bank and for groceries. Merrill chopped grass for bedding. Laura and Dawn here in evening. Called from Sears. They are fixing stove tomorrow. Roy and Carol Matteson have baby boy, Adam Roy, 8 lb, 2 oz born today.

4-H Talent Show, 7:30. Nora, Linda, Lisa and Donna sang. Allison played piano. She got blue, other’s red. Anne, Allison, Dawn, Lisa, Donna and Lamica’s went with us. Sears repairman for stove, $71.94 for thermostat and censor. Got letter from June and Dan. Vern in Denver and Steve at 5th grade Camp.

We went to church. Rev Barnard, Adams, speaker. Good turn out. We went out home but they were at Brenda’s. Debby has been at Halfway house in Watertown for 3 weeks. We stopped at Bill and Brenda’s on way home. Doreen and Mike are getting married the 19th. Mike is working at WATN radio.
