Diary Entry for 5/1/2003

Thunder in PM. Some rain, some sun. I went to exercise class. Seven there. Vi, Julie, and girls were in lobby. Vi is having a time getting her phone. Florence gave me two sweaters. The Carthage High School choir sang for us here. They were just great. Vi here in PM. I stopped in at her apartment in evening. Great to have her here. We have been good friends since 1945. Lyla called in evening. Scott and Kristen Thayer had baby girl, Rylee Ann, 9 ½ pounds at 9:30 PM.

56° and 29°. A beautiful day but a cool breeze. I went for coffee and donuts. No more until fall. Good turnout. I paid for Vi’s Centennial Club dues as a house warming gift. A New York State horse, “Funny Side” won the Kentucky Derby today. Six Sackets Harbor men own him. Lucky them. Jim Nash called about church. Sherri sick with a cold now.

64° and 27°. A sunny day. Breeze still cold. I went to church with Jim N. Sherri didn’t go. I went to Baptist service here in PM. Vi stopped in. She took my first diary to read. Jolie called in PM. She’s working a 70 hour week.

70° and 35°. Partly cloudy. Rain in late PM. Appointment with Dr. LaPoint. They took 3 vials of blood for tests. I rode bus to and from downtown. I went to meeting of Centennial Club in evening. Lots going on. Vern called in evening. He’s coming for Vi and I Thursday at 10 AM. I got sweet note from Nancy Huntress.

Some rain. Some sun. I went to exercise class. Seven of us out. VIP meeting in PM. Eleven present. Judy Pearson spoke on diabetes. I sent seven dues to bank, $35. I was up to Vi’s. She finally got her phone. She called me on it. Arlene Wilson called. Nanette Purvis had VIP meeting. Linda had a sore shoulder. I called Jim but he was in Syracuse. Jessie called She will come on Monday.

59° and 46°. Partly cloudy. Not much sun. Lidia got back from Florida. Vi here. We made out papers for photo ID’s. I called Jim. He was in Syracuse again. He leaves Saturday for Washington DC and Myrtle Beach. Esther Taylor called in evening. I didn’t go to Pedro.

Partly cloudy. Warm. I called Juanita in morning, Ken’s okay. Have flea market open. Vern came for Vi and me at 10 AM. We went to motor vehicle office to get photo ID’s. They wouldn’t accept our credentials. We stopped in Pulaski MV and they issued them okay. $6.50 each. Robin and kids came to Vern’s in PM. June took us to Rev. Catherine Salisbury’s new hoe at Senior housing apartment. A beautiful place. It is 3 years old.

64° and 36°. A beautiful day. Vern and June brought us home by way of Boylston. We ate at Shar’s Restaurant on Redfield Road. Vern drove into Barker’s farm and down to our old house. No one lives where we did. It made me homesick to see it again after all those years. They have added an addition to the kitchen side. Also have built a garage there. Madison, Jolie, and Zack called in evening. Zack is going to be in a GMCA commercial.

71° and 50°. A great day. Lots of birds singing. I got roast beef dinner from church. Jill called tonight. She’s coming tomorrow. Jim left for Washington DC and Myrtle Beach this morning.

71° and 50°. Cloudy in morning. Rain in PM and evening. Windy. Jill here for lunch with me. She brought me beautiful bouquet of pink and red carnations. Jim called from Washington DC. Jolie, Madison and Shawn Michael called on 3-way hookup. They took Lyla to hospital. She returned home. Ethel Dunn called in evening to day Dorothy Jenison died tonight about 6 PM. Kidney problems. She was 78. I talked with Vi.

Rained about all day. Colder. Jessie here to clean. We went to drugstore and also got groceries. I took Vi a piece of pie. I got Mother’s Day cards from Jolie and Zack. Also Shawn Michael and Madison. I called Ken about Dort. Also Lyla. Alma Hershey on my hall moved out today.

46° and 42°. Raining off and on most of day. No sun. I went to exercise class. Vi came for first. Vi stopped by in PM. Funny Side’s owners honored in Sackets Harbor tonight. NBC News people present.

69° and 37°. Partly cloudy. Sunny. Warm. I went to exercise class. 13 out. 1 missing. I collected money for raffle tickets. We have 15 so far. I talked with Linda B. Also called Cindy. Eleanor H called to say Nancy Huntress is in Carthage hospital for diabetes. She had two blood transfusions last night. I called Vivian. She was ill with the bug. I talked with Lyla. Vi here in evening.

65° and 53°. Partly cloudy. I called Lindy B. also called for park pavilion for July 1st. I got my photo ID card. I went up to Vi’s I evening. I sent card and letter to Nancy Huntress. Juanita called in evening. She and Doreen want me to go shopping with them tomorrow. JCC Graduated 653 students. A 16 year old Chapin boy the youngest graduate.

67° and 38°. A nice day. Sunny. Doreen and Juanita picked me up about 10 AM. We went to Sam’s, Walmart, Big Lots and had lunch at Burger King. I went to Doreen’s for lasagna supper. They brought me home about 9 PM. She had to take Juanita home yet. She got her mother a new Emerson color TV with VCR. Doreen has a nice home. She works so hard. Esther T, Coby, and Jim N left messages on my machine. Ginny Chide won the Preakness by 10 lengths. My leg hurt all day.

76° and 40°. A beautiful day. Clark and Vivian came about 10:30 AM. They left for Clark’s doctor appointment. Then came back and they took me to Shelby’s for lunch. Vi called and invited me for lunch also. I asked for a rain check. Jim called. He got home from Myrtle Beach last night about nine. I talked with Lyla and Jane Currier. Nancy H is in St. Joseph’s Syracuse. She may have a brain tumor.

78° and 48°. A great summer day. A nice breeze blowing. Rain in the evening. I went to exercise class. 14 of us there. All present. I washed clothes in PM. Also collected some raffle money. Vi called in evening. Orange alert out for terrorist attacks once again. Gary Fikes fell from a ladder at his home. He is in critical condition.

60° and 45°. Sunny. I played Pedro in evening. Vern called. He wanted to come today but I asked them to come June 3rd when I go to Dr. Sanni. I talked with Vi. Florence got me a cotton housecoat at Bon Ton store. It is like one she got on sale.

65° and 34°. A beautiful day. Cool wind. I took bus to and from Dr. Powell’s. $4. I saw Joan Hoffa at Dr. Powell’s. I don’t need to go back. Water off from 7:30 AM until 5 PM. Jane Currier called to say Nancy has three ulcers. Gary Fikes improving. I talked with Vi.

66° and 43°. Not a bad day. Mostly cloudy. Exercise class at 8:30 AM. Dawn gave us strawberry jam. Vi and Andrea here awhile. Jim here in evening. He adjusted the picture on my TV.

59° and 53°. Raining all day. Coby Slate here. He takes Lay Speakers test Tuesday night. He called earlier to see if I was home Lorraine Brancatella is real bad and under the care of Hospice. Lyla called in evening. I talked with Vi and Sherri.

65° and 51°. Rained off and on all day. Thunder and lightning. I went to church with Jim and Sherri. Vi here for cleaner in evening. Helen Kiechle called in evening. We had a nice visit.

58° and 50°. Rained all day. Some memorial events called off. Some went on as planned. No mail or Times. I haven’t been out of m apartment today. I changed the sheets on my bed and also flipped over the mattress. Vi called.

58° and 48°. Raining most of the day. They couldn’t wash the windows on the outside. I went to exercise class. Vi invited me up to have lunch with her. A nice lunch and visit. I took load of garbage and trash papers etc down to trash room in evening. Vi brought my cleaner back.
