Diary Entry for 11/3/1973

Cleaned house in evening. Colder and windy. We went to Philadelphia for groceries in morning. Got supper groceries also. We went to city in PM. Ordered blower motor, $50. I got Nylon coat at FBC. Merrill got winter rubbers. Got bushel of cabbage for supper.

Vi went to Mercy Hospital. A beautiful day but cold wind. We went to church. Went up to Joyce’s for squash. Bought lunch to bring home at Igloo. Grant Northrus here in evening. Talked with Marguerite and Aunt Maude. Gave out slips to call.

Church Board meeting at CEC. Merrill went. Church real good financially. I baked squash. Got dressing stuff, and pies. Wrote Beulah Hall. Wrote Mom. Cold. They are getting snow in several places.

Election day. John Keichel, Philadelphia supervisor. Hale’s went with us to vote. I was number 107, Merrill 108. We took stuff up to church and CEC and cabbage to school. Had first election supper in CEC building. People from Carthage, Watertown Black River there. My 12th year as chairman.

Margaret M and I cleaned up remains of supper at CEC and church. Took pies to Martha’s to freeze for Sunday. We went to Bill and Brenda’s. Merrill got tires changed at Agway for winter. Mom called in evening. Called Martha M. Vi is not too good.

Karen Stafford from Minetto called. She live at the city. Wrote Vi. Pat Brancatella had tractor tip over on him about 11:30. Merrill and I took him to Mercy hospital. He as broken collar bone. Mary Hall took Lorraine and I to city in evening. We visited Vi. I saw her this PM also. She is much better today.

Got note from June. Took Lorraine to city. I got blower motor at Sears, $60. Got two bedspreads, green, at Grants for stairway. Got print blouse, $5. Men got Pat’s tractor righted. Lynn, Howard and Merrill cleaned away manure pile. Most of it Brotherton left. We went to youth Rally at Mills in evening.

A great day. We went to church to covered dish dinner and 3 PM concert. Good turnout to all. Pat’s father drove Pat’s car to hospital this PM. Pat not as good Lorraine said. Merrill put motor on furnace blower.

Wrote Vern. Merrill took Lorraine and Mr. and Mrs. Brancatella to hospital. Pat may come home tomorrow. I stayed with Tina and Tony. Cheryl H. called and asked me to take her place at Parish-Pastor meeting. Got home at 11:15. I put up curtains on stairway.

Agway dinner. I went to work at 2 PM. Got home at 11. Had 580 at $4.50 to be used on CEC house. Jim’s here in PM and supper. Brought my locket watch, $9.63 repair. Pat Brancatella came home from hospital. I didn’t go to Bible Study. Had to fill my pies.

Tired today. A beautiful day. We went to Joyce’s for squash and store for groceries. Got 3 red enamel dishes at store free. Rebekah’s had service for Lawrence at Philadelphia funeral home. Merrill and I went. I didn’t go to Lodge.

Ken and Eleanor’s 27 anniversary. UMW meeting at Theresa. I took Vi, Lila, Carrie, Lois and Margaret. Very nice. Was on Gateway with Charles Murray speaking and showing movie. I cleaned oven and refrigerator. Mopped kitchen floor. Aunt Maude called. She got caste off. Ross Belcher in hospital, very bad.

Sgt. Kenley Bower’s last Air Force show on WOTT. Joyce called. We have $2215.57 to pay on CEC from suppers. We went to church. Not too many out but a great Thanksgiving sermon. A lazy day. Too tired to do anything.

Rev. B is on radio this week. PNG’s at Marguerites. 12 out. I cleaned upstairs. Merrill put wood down cellar. Sent our life insurance. Merrill had $1085.20 + $145.17 int. Mine is $679.60 + $94.09 int. Took it out in 1963.

I went to Bible Study. Jim, Pat, and Jolie here for lunch and supper. Bought one box of candy and cards. They had Pat’s mother’s car. She is in Ohio at her sons. I called Vern’s and Mom. Ken’s are coming Thursday. Got groceries.

My birthday, 56th. Vi goes to doctors. I took her. She is coming OK. Got sheets and cases for Roberta for wedding present. Got roaster for Patty. Pat called and wanted us to come after pork. They gave us so much. Had liver for supper. Got cards and letter from Eleanor. Sent Debbie card, and $1.

A cloudy day. Cold wind. We went to church. Carrie T rode with us. Merrill went over to Pat B in PM. He got his car going. Talked with Aunt Maude. Pres. Nixon on TV asking for 15% cut in oil and gas. No Sunday stations.

Nice day. Washed my hair. Bill here with fuel oil. First time in a month. Put in 174 gal @.24. Cleaned out dish drawer. Got letter ready to send Mother T. Sent money to Salvation Army, Holy Land Mission, and Order to 4-H for photo albums for Christmas gifts. Merrill and Boots went to bank and store.

Wrote Vern’s. I had leg cramps all night long. Tired all day. Windy, rainy day. I didn’t go to Lodge. Lois L called to say window is out of Lodge Hall in front. Carl H here for Merrill to fix his milk house door.

Snow on ground in morning but it melted. Dr. Scanlon, 2 PM. Everything OK. Got some Christmas shopping done. Ruth Eg and I went to church service at Mannsville with Mattingly’s. Very good. James Howard, 19, Antwerp has been missing 1 week.
