Diary Entry for 7/1/1978

Risdale’s first full day of farming. Wrote Marg. Merrill mowed lawns here. A beautiful day. They picked up milk, 756 pounds. I washed clothes. We went to Philadelphia in evening for groceries. Got Agway check. Stock interest, $2.25.

Merrill got a $11.30 increase in Social Security check. Medicare went up 50 cents. Merrill took water buckets back to Agway and got better ones. Got invited to Nora LaMica’s wedding. Glenn mowed more hay. Hot in PM. I called Vern’s in evening.

Great weather but very dry. Merrill and I went to Philadelphia. I got B-12 shot at Marilyn’s. Merrill took out cellar window for Mrs. Cameron. Sent money to Bisnett’s for fixing bulk tank. We packed cellar stuff. They drawed, mowed, and raked hay.

Very hot but nice. Vince Murphy took gas tank back. They raked and drawed hay. Over 1000 bales in barn. I called Giles. June called her lawyers office at city. Merrill went to Philadelphia with Howard.

They cleaned up hay across road. Mowed field by living room. We took stuff to dump. Stopped at Pat and Ruth’s. Thunder storm and rain after supper. Their Jersey cow had calf. Girls found it Sunday morning.

We had birthday supper for Jolie. Gave her $5. We went to church, 56 in church. Jim’s here for supper. We watered garden. Glenda Webb took my blood pressure. Right arm 160/100 and left 180/110. We took rototiller up to Philadelphia. Risdale’s went with us.

Jolie’s 7th birthday. Rainy in AM. Merrill went to Mills. Paid for water bucket. He worked in garden in PM. June went to city. Girls out of town until Wednesday. I wrote Dr. Roberts. Cleaned living room and bedroom up stairs.

They sent 4 cows and 2 calves to sale. Sent Don and Juanita anniversary card. Got letter from Uncle Berl. They drawed 4 loads of hay. Rained in evening. We all ate supper together. Marilyn and boys stopped in on way to Mary’s. Ruth Eggleston called in evening. Today is her birthday. Betty Haggerty called her.

Don and Juanita’s 38th anniversary. They drawed some hay. We went over to Art and Doris Haggerty’s to see Uncle Len’s. Bob and Abby there also. Nice day. I didn’t get much sleep. Rained some during night.

Glen Risdale goes back to work. Merrill and June baled load of hay. Merrill had car inspected at Bilkalhouse, Theresa, $3. We went up to garden in evening. Sprayed cabbage and cauliflower. Stopped at Cameron’s. Beulah Hall’s 82nd birthday.

Nora Lamica, and Robert Hamilton wedding, Antwerp, 7:30. We didn’t go. Merrill helped Glenn draw hay when he got home from work. Merrill raked it. Called Giles. June R talked with Rabjeck’s. I went for groceries. Very hot and humid. Marilyn P had kidney stones operation.

Cloudy, Risdale’s got cow and heifers. Glenn mowed hay in evening. Mary here. Marilyn coming OK after operation. We went down to Frank and Judy’s. Got their abstracts to take to Giles on Monday. Worked in garden.

Jefferson County Fair. We went to church. Jim’s here in PM and for supper. Brought corn, salad etc. I cooked beans from garden. Septic tank is bothering. Anne Eggleston here in evening.

We took Gloria, Alison, and Ginger to Fair with exhibits. Took Payne’s abstract to Giles. Judy P called to say Nancy Maloy died yesterday. I went to Administrative Board meeting. Merrill helped Glenn draw hay. Knox cleaned septic tank, $37.45.

Sent Don card and letter. Also Marilyn Payne. Wrote Uncle Berl. Hot and muggy. My arms very achy. Merrill and June got load of hay. Glenn mowed and got part of a load in evening. I washed clothes. June called her lawyer.

Don’s 55th birthday. Got car insurance, $158. Girls and I went to Glenda W for B-12 shot and she took my blood pressure. Stopped at house and picked beans. I called Dr. Roberts but didn’t get him. We went to Fair. Tommy James and Southern Gentlemen. Good show.

Patty called. Vern has been appointed Dean. Raining about all day. I baked cookies and pumpkin pie. They couldn’t hay it. We went to “Welcome Newcomers” covered dish supper and dance at Legion. Hank Schell and Royal played. Also Elaine and Lou. Sent order for memorial stand and book.

Jim leaves for Albany police school, 5 days. We went to Sackets after church. Took down string beans. Had lunch. We went to Don’s. Ken’s there also. Had supper at Don’s. Olive and Elgin visited Orv’s, Ken’s and Don’s. Mrs. Camon [?] and her brother, Orley Goodman played piano and musical saw.

Merrill, June R, and girls got 1 load of hay. It started raining about 4:30. Part of load got wet. I cleaned kitchen cupboards. Called Dr. Roberts. Risdale’s lawyer called. Closing may be Thursday.
