Gave myself a Lilt perm. Merrill took car to Gouverneur for new tailpipe and muffler, $30.00. Jim was here for supper. He is working nights this week. Sent Dave card and letter. Talked with several about supper.

David’s 14th birthday. Wrote Beulah and Les. Les is in the hospital with cancer. I went to Leona Shaws for tickets. Took them to Philadelphia to mail. Jim and Jim D here for supper. Rode their cycles out. I went to WSCS. Doris Haggerty called and invited us over Sunday for dinner.

Merrill’s appointment with Dr. Robert’s. He has a curvature of the spine and arthritis. He has to do exercises and wear a surgical belt. Marilyn and Bob left picture. Heard Jim’s name of radio for first time. Investigated an accident.

Leona Hall is 70 years old today. We set tables at Grange Hall for District Meeting. Marge, Shep, Leah, Martha, Esther, and Vi. Merrill went up to help put rope on church bell. Martin Luther King shot and killed, 31 years old, in Memphis Tennessee.

District meeting. 58 present. Frances Ansted nominated DD President. had ham dinner at 6:30 in Grange Hall. Evelyn Hall had 14 teeth out. Sent in 4-H kids entry blanks for Demonstrations.

Fireman’s supper. I had to cook potatoes at church. Vi and Martha helped peel them. Donna and Sharon helped take them over to Fire Halal. Merrill got hair cut. Started cleaning yards. Jim worked at Fays. Merrill saw Jim D at Theresa.

Palm Sunday. We went to church. Baptism. Art and Doris Haggerty had their baby baptized, Steven John, 6 months old. Jim and Jim D there also in pm. Boys here for supper. Beautiful day.

Jim started police school at Carthage, 8 am – 5 pm. He came home in evening to type up reports. 6 taking course. Freedom March in Memphis led by M L King widow and sons. Merrill went to IOOF. Wrote Vern’s. Worked on Assembly President reports.

Rev. Martin L. King’s funeral. 150,000 people attended. It was on TV all day. Ironed Jim’s shirts. Saw Jim on TV. Sent Lodge report to A Pres. Vivian Fitch. The birds are at the bird house for first.

4-H here. All here but Sharon, Cathy and Jeff. Practiced demonstrations and Betty cut out her dress. I went to city for groceries. Got beige pocketbook. Merrill built fence. Sent Easter cards and letters. Oren and Norma Gee flew home from Texas.

Good Friday. Washed my hair. A beautiful day, 71°. Merrill put up bird feeders. Washed. Got Easter cards from Vern’s. Eleanor called in evening. They are coming Sunday. Jim and Jim D came out in evening on cycles. Mom called in evening. Some of them are coming Sunday.

Easter Sunday, 80°. I went to 7 AM cantata. 3 choirs sang. Mom, Ken’s, Don’s kids, and Maureen Patchen here for dinner. Jim Bowman and Tom from Canada here for supper. Uncle Roy and Lila and Jim Ashley family here in PM. Jim went after Mom and Kids and took all but Mom and Doreen home. They stayed overnight.

4-H demonstration Days at Indian River School. I went with Donna, Lorraine. Terry got blue ribbons and Hal red. Merrill took Mom and Doreen home while I was at 4-H. I was a room hostess. Rainy in morning, colder. Past Grands at Elsie’s. 15 present.

Town of Philadelphia started working on our road. They are putting in sluices. I went to city for groceries. Got golf set for Steve and Sand toys for Danny. Percy Pratt’s family have a new Opal wagon. Boys came out on cycles in evening. Called kids in evening. Danny is walking.

We went to Vern and Junes’ for dinner. Jim and Rennie went also. A beautiful day. Blanch O’Brian called in evening. Wants staff to go to Tomacy’s Wed. night. I called some of staff. Vi has to have an operation.

Western show at Kingston. Toby, Karen, Jim, & Maureen went. Rebekahs banquet at Tomacy’s for 4 staffs from District to honor advisors. Freda, Paul, and Marjorie Laduke. 14 present. Vi, Esther, and Marguerite went with me. We came back in time for Lodge. I’m to be acting treas.

Vi goes into hospital for operation. Aunt Maude called in evening to say it was in tonight’s paper that Philip LeClair had committed suicide. Found him Thursday morning. They live in Walton, NY. Margaret is 26.

Boys came out on their cycles for breakfast. Also for supper. Jim got a new Suzuki cycle. $800. Got it last night. Mom called about Philip LeClair in evening. Jim Matteson came down in evening. Called Bill in evening. Vi had her operation at 8 AM

Philip LeClair’s funeral at Belleville. We went to church and then to Belleville for funeral. Uncle Ray and Aunt M. Went with us. Huge funeral. 12 from cycle club there on cycles. we stopped at Orv and Angie’s. White frost last night. Jim home in evening.

WSCS District Meeting at Carthage 10 AM. I didn’t go. I painted kitchen woodwork and inside of sink cupboard. Merrill made shelf for sink cupboard. I got Lodge books for Dist 3. Can’t get ritual as only lodges may have them. Rainy. Toby here in evening.
