Sent Readers Digest subscriptions, Vern’s, Jim’s, Halls, us. Sent Sharon Hall card and letter. Merrill put in 3 load of corn. Jim and Pat here for supper on cycle. Subscribed to Good Housekeeping magazine for June and Pat. I mowed lawns by house. Mower not working right.

Sent Brenda card, letter and $1. I went to city for groceries. Stopped by Pat and Jim’s. Rained in PM. Merrill put in 3 load of corn. Merrill went to Mills. Got new shoes, $9.98 and ensilage fork, $6. Toby, Karen here in evening. Theresa installation.

4-H Achievement night at General brown. Donna and I drove. None of boys went. Sharon, Mary and Cathy didn’t go. Debby sang. Got a red ribbon. Merrill put in three load of corn. 47 load. I made pickled pears Vern’s brought up.

Merrill finished filling silo. Almost full, 48 loads. Canned 10 pints of pickled pears. John from Bisnett’s was here. First he has been back since installing bulk tank. Paid him $2897.70. Sharon Hall got home from hospital today.

WSCS here. Only 12 members and 1 guest, Gretchen Gregory. Rained hard in evening. Addie Klock is back in Carthage Hospital. I cleaned house. Feel better but still weak. Jim and Pat here. They took down ensilage pipes and covered drain hole. Cactus plant blossomed in evening.

Rebekah’s Installation. Mary Hall NG. I’m treasures. Betty Rudes VG. Very small turn out, only 54. But everything very nice. Merrill worked on supper in Grange Hall. Toby here in evening. Brought one record. Called Sears about repairman for dishwasher and dryer. They called in PM to say they would be here tomorrow.

Sears repairman to repair dryer and dishwasher. $79. Wrong fuse in meter box for dryer. Ball bearing in pump on dishwasher. Got letter from Eleanor wanting us to come down Sunday for dinner. I went down to Sharon Sinclair’s in evening. Electricians here in evening. John and Martha have baby girl, Susan Andrea.

Beautiful, like summer day 70°. We had first fall 4-H meeting here, 7 girls here, 2 absent. Boys are going to start new club. Hank and Marion Schell to be leaders. Girls had election of officers. Merrill finished covering cess pool at barn. Called Jim’s and Eleanor.

Country and Western Jamboree at Eggleston’s. Cloudy. We went to church. We went to Ken’s for Canadian Thanksgiving dinner. Jim and Pat went also. The Bowman’s spent the weekend at Ken’s. Also a women from Scotland. Mom there also. Elgin, Mom and I went to flea market.

No school. Mail went. I washed clothes. Beautiful day but cloudy in morning. Windy in evening. Jim was out to help Merrill put in cement in barn shed. Marion Schell called say she’d be a 4-H leader for the boys.

4-H leaders meeting. 7:30. Donna and I went. Jerry F is ill and has to go to hospital when she can get in. Merrill finished cement. Wrote Vern’s. Harriet’s hair appointment. 1 PM for permanent. $10.

Aunt Maude called in morning to say Gilson Strader and friend Jim were at her house. Had been to Michigan. Merrill plowed in PM. I cleaned house. Got letter from June. Wrote Dot. Sent baby card to John and Martha.

Started study of Sermon on the Mount. We went to church. Cloudy with rain in evening. We went out to Weston’s and Fays after church. Ate lunch at Benton’s. Got 2 hot wheel items for Steve. Also winter rubbers for both Steve and Dan. Ken went to hospital.

PNG’s at Netties. I didn’t go. Rainy, stormy day. Foggy in evening. Cleaned windows in our bedroom. Wrote June. Merrill’s leg bothering him. Larry N called to say he would white wash on Thursday. Ken had operation.

Rebekah’s first meeting with new officers. First snow fall of the season. Heavy, about 5 inches. Jim and Gary here for winter tires in afternoon. Gary got 3 pheasants this morning. Ken had his operation on Monday.

4-H Halloween party at Halls. 34 present. Jamie Schell and Graham boys absent. Our club invited the Ore Bed Twisters, the boys new 4-H club. Very nice time. Warmer. Snow disappearing. Sent card to Steve and $1.

Stevie’s 5th birthday. Hunting season opens. Snow all gone this morning. Toby was up in morning. He was at Potsdam all last week. Washed my hair. Cleaned. Aunt Maude called. She is going to Vern’s with us. Patty called. Beulah M was there so talked with her.

Diary Entry for 10/26/1969

Stevie’s birthday dinner party. Pat and Aunt Maude went with us. Gehm’s there also. Steve has been sick with lung infection. There was a dance at Pat’s from 9-3 last night. Week of Prayer and Self Denial service in our church. Evans Mills invited. I didn’t go. Had terrible headache all day. Jim went hunting for 4 days.

Took tractor starter to Fry’s to be cleaned. Went to Ken Burley’s for chopper blades. Got veg. for WSCS supper at Greaco’s. Got blue corduroy cloth. Stopped at hospital to see Ken. He had just come down from operating room. They removed a piece of gland from his throat for tests, He is also getting skin tests.

Sent rest of payment on cleaner $158.20. They brought 4 ton lime and spread it on back ledge. Called several about slips. Got letter from June. Vern was sick Sunday night. Throat and ear infection. Down to 20° in evening.

4-H Leaders Banquet at Hotel Woodruff. 7:30. Donna Hall and I went. There was a huge crowd. I got 5 year leader pin. Donna got 1 year. Cold in evening. Called Patty. Wrote Vern’s. Sent boys Halloween cards. Merrill not feeling too good.

Grants Washington Street Store opened. I went to city today at 10 AM for turkeys and groceries for election supper. Stopped at Pat’s. Jim not home yet. Went to hospital . Ken was going home. He has Sarciodosis. Very rare. Called Vern’s. They are all sick. Vern some better.

Wrote Uncle Berl. Got letters from Dot M and Les and Beulah Hall. Merrill went up to Aunt Maude’s. Larry Nevilles white washed barn, $31.27. Had only 9 Halloween Trick-or-Treaters. Halls, and Brotherton’s. Nice day. Warmer.
