Diary Entry for 6/1/1977

Merrill worked at Aunt Maude’s porch, 6 hours. We went to hospital in evening. Made pies. Got note from June. Mom had 2nd radium treatment. Has had 4 chemo therapy treatments.

We went to Oswego. Went to Minetto Church to see Steve join church. Don and Bea Gehm there also. Very nice day together. Stopped at hospital on way home. Mom said Don’s have a new car. June sent Mom flowers.

UMW. Esther Hodge and Mildred Porter guests. 14 present. We went to hospital in PM. I talked with Dr. Myerdericks. Mom can go home last of week. Merrill worked at Aunt Maude’s in AM. Jim’s here for supper. I went to UMW after they left.

Merrill went to Sunday School and church. Dwayne Watson preached. Last Sunday of Sunday School. Aunt Maude called Beulah. Uncle Lloyd coming OK but weak. He has lots of congestion. Washed in evening.

Got letter from Uncle Berl. Mom’s appointment, 10:15 in hospital for x-ray treatment. We went to city. Saw Uncle Lloyd in intensive care. He goes to a room today. Mom visited Gladys Shelmidine at hospital. She fell off her back steps. We mowed lawns.

Mom’s x-ray therapy at 10:15. Aunt Maude went with us to hospital. Took Mom home and spent the day. Merrill helped Don on barn scaffold. Mom to go back to hospital in 2 weeks for a check up. I got B-12 shot from Marilyn.

Mom’s appointment with Dr. Thompson, 2:45. Mom’s 85th birthday. Merrill helped Don on barn. Juanita and I took Mom. Had birthday party for Mom. Orv, Angie, Marg and Roy. Ken and Eleanor, Holly, Roberta, Bill and Luke, Don and Juanita, Cindy, Karen, Dwayne, Merrill and I. Called Patty on way home.

Finally raining. We went out to Mom’s. She seems real good today. Merrill helped Don. Mom gave me lace table cloth and lace bed spread she made. We sent Beatrice and Braynard 50th anniversary card.

Brancatella’s moved to New Jersey today. We went to c church, 79 out. Sunday School had a breakfast for Jay Larson, exchange student. We went down to see Mrs. Beardsley in PM. She is real good at 91 years. Vern’s called.

PNG’s at McCormick’s, 18 PNG’s there. I rode with Esther. Vi and Leah drove. Merrill worked at Aunt Maude’s door. Latch doesn’t fit so he couldn’t finish. I made cake and 4 pies. Washed clothes. David Dimon here to inquire about farm.

Merrill helped Don on barn. Mom seemed in less pain today. We went to funeral home for Vida Miller Wallace. Saw Howard and Edith Hanson. Also Bruce H and family. Earl Raymos and Ruth and Ev. Hoover there also.

Graduation. Jamie Schell graduates. We went out home all day. Merrill worked on barn. I washed windows and curtains up for Mom. Vern, June and boys came up there for supper. Uncle Lloyd had operation. He had a kink on intestine. I stopped at hospital on way home.

Sent June card, and $5. Merrill put new sink pipe on at parsonage. Finished door latch at Aunt Maude’s. I washed clothes. Made 2 pumpkin pies, donuts and cookies. Got letter from Uncle Berl. Lettie has had more strokes. Merrill mowed lawns in evening.

We went out home all day. Men got a lot done on barn. Mom came home with us. Elgin called in evening. They are coming Thursday when he gets out of school. Jim broke his right fore finger.

Mom’s hospital checkup. She has to go back into hospital soon. We took her home. Merrill helped Don in PM. Called Patty. Jim broke his finger. Saw Uncle Lloyd at hospital. Is a little better. Was getting needles [?] out today. Howard here in evening.

Sent accident insurance, $30. Paid Dr. Irwin Stone $10 for Mom. Sent a claim for $96. We went out to Mom’s. Men tore down old barn. Rained hard. I called Elgin and Olive in evening. Very windy here.

Worked at home all day. I washed and baked pies. Olive and Elgin Bowman got here about 5 PM. We went to see Mrs. Beardsley and Aunt Maude in evening. Elgin played for Mrs. Beardsley. Wrote Vern’s.
