4-H Leaders meeting at Pamela, 8 PM Donna couldn’t go as she was sick. I went with Dawn K, Lois and Sinn. I got letter from June. They plan to come Friday night. Wrote Uncle Berl and sent birthday card. Merrill started kitchen floor. Got 2 sheets nova ply down.

Merrill worked at kitchen. Beautiful day. Aunt Maude and Elsie Bacon here in evening to find out about how to make sofa pillows.

I’ve been sick all day with terrible headache. Merrill cleaned house. Vern’s got here at 7:15. First since Christmas. Jim came home in evening about 9 PM. He has been sick with ear infection. Just went to work Thursday and Friday. Works days. He’s been sick a week.

Very warm day. Men fixed dish washer from leaking. Got washer at Theresa. Kids left for home at 6:30. Marguerite called. Also Elsie. Jim left at 10:45. Had to go to work at 11:30.

Uncle Berl’s birthday. We didn’t’ go to church. We started out to Mom’s but it was so foggy we only went as far at Philadelphia. Lazy day.

22° b below zero today. Worked at kitchen floor. Sent in film. Wrote A.P. Fitch about Treas. bond. Sent Leona Hall and Clara Zufelt cards in hospital. Jim and Kenny here in evening. Jim’s ear better.

Snowed hard in PM and evening. We went to city. Roads very slippery coming home. Got kitchen tile at Garn’s, @ 24¢, $47.06

Rebekahs. I went. Washed Jim’s shirts and ironed. still snowy in AM. Cleaned in PM. George Graham plowed our driveway. Merrill finished laying nova ply in kitchen.

0° at 7 AM. Mary Hall here all AM. Church at 7:30 pm. We didn’t go as we couldn’t get around in time. Painted kitchen ceiling tile white.

4-H here at 4 PM. All here but Debby. They did demonstrations all except Terry and Jeff. Sent Roberta letter and birthday card.

Rainy. Cleaned church. Merrill went to Fry’s after tractor part. It wouldn’t start. Got groceries. Toby here for supper. He gave Sharon engagement ring last night. Donna H and kids here for sugar molds.

Roberta’s 16th birthday. Foggy again this Sunday. We went to church. Kenny and Brenda’s son baptized. He is 1 year old today. Jeffrey Patrick. I worked at my Rebekah’s report.

I painted kitchen cupboards etc. I went to Past Grands at Zelda McKeever’s. Jim was home when I got here at 11 PM. He picked Kelly Hardy’s husband up for shop lifting tools. Jim’s ear is okay. He got 4 new tires at Sears to put on his car

Merrill started laying kitchen floor tiles. Looks nice. I went up to Carrie Thompson’s to help plan District supper. Very warm spring day.

Rainy all day. I washed kitchen windows and curtains. Merrill got more tile laid in kitchen. I took clothes out to cleaner today. Got stainless steel double boiler with Gold stamps.

I sent for bird book in Farm Journal book club. I took car to Gouverneur. It stopped at theresa with Merrill. Battery has two dead cells. Jim and Rennie here for supper. Merrill joined NFO, $25. I went to Neighborhood night with Hanlons. Merrill got birthday card from June and Vern, Don’s

Merrill’s 59th birthday. I gave him jack knife and shirt. We went to city. Jim got us car battery at Sears, $24.29. Got pair of slacks. Wrote Vern’s. Jim worked at Fays. Talked with Aunt Maude. Mae Strader is home but can’t talk too well. Merrill finished floor.

I went to city in morning for 5 floor tile. Car wouldn’t start at Garn’s. Elmer Gleason started it for me. Merrill took it to Gouverneur in PM. Washed and baked. Snowing hard in PM. Everything white again.

Ground covered with snow. We went out to Mom’s for dinner. Haven’t been out since Jan 1 4. Vern, June and boys here when we got home. Had been here about half hour. Roads slippery some in AM. Jim came home in evening for night.

Eleanor’s 40th birthday. We went up to Everett Valentines sugar bush in PM. June never had been before. We couldn’t get syrup as he had just started making good syrup. Steve and I went to bank.

Juanita’s 39th birthday. I forgot to send her card. Kids left at 9:30 AM. Beautiful day. Charlotte and Dale Hale here. Got letter from Eleanor. Washed clothes. Washed my hair.

I worked at Lodge report. Eleanor, Holly, and Mrs. Payne were here for supper. Holly had teacher’s conference so no school. A beautiful spring day. Merrill went to Mills. I went to Lodge in evening. Vi took my picture with Polaroid. Got card from June.

Jim bought Honda cycle at Trotters, $400. Mowers and Meeks anniversary, 32, and 4 years. 4-H here at 7:00 PM. All here but Hall boys. I worked at Lodge reports. Merrill made lawn roller (Cement) very warm. Frogs hollering for first tonight.

Jim and Jim D here this morning. Had top down on car. Jim bought a cycle. Took his driver’s test for it at 2:30 pm. I went to city. Got new girdle. Got insulated blanket for Len and Betty. I called NG of Lodges about raffle tickets. Colder and windy in evening.

Cleaned church and basement. Boy Scouts here on paper drive. I had car washed at Girl’s club car wash. Nice day but cool wind. Leona Hall not very good.

Open House for Len and Betty Haggerty. 35 years. Uncle Ray and Aunt Maude went with us. House was full. Nice time. Merrill and I went to church. Merrill was usher. We had ham dinner at diner. Noble Grand of Evans Mills left ticket money while we were gone.

Gave myself a Lilt perm. Merrill took car to Gouverneur for new tailpipe and muffler, $30.00. Jim was here for supper. He is working nights this week. Sent Dave card and letter. Talked with several about supper.

David’s 14th birthday. Wrote Beulah and Les. Les is in the hospital with cancer. I went to Leona Shaws for tickets. Took them to Philadelphia to mail. Jim and Jim D here for supper. Rode their cycles out. I went to WSCS. Doris Haggerty called and invited us over Sunday for dinner.

Merrill’s appointment with Dr. Robert’s. He has a curvature of the spine and arthritis. He has to do exercises and wear a surgical belt. Marilyn and Bob left picture. Heard Jim’s name of radio for first time. Investigated an accident.

Leona Hall is 70 years old today. We set tables at Grange Hall for District Meeting. Marge, Shep, Leah, Martha, Esther, and Vi. Merrill went up to help put rope on church bell. Martin Luther King shot and killed, 31 years old, in Memphis Tennessee.

District meeting. 58 present. Frances Ansted nominated DD President. had ham dinner at 6:30 in Grange Hall. Evelyn Hall had 14 teeth out. Sent in 4-H kids entry blanks for Demonstrations.

Fireman’s supper. I had to cook potatoes at church. Vi and Martha helped peel them. Donna and Sharon helped take them over to Fire Halal. Merrill got hair cut. Started cleaning yards. Jim worked at Fays. Merrill saw Jim D at Theresa.

Palm Sunday. We went to church. Baptism. Art and Doris Haggerty had their baby baptized, Steven John, 6 months old. Jim and Jim D there also in pm. Boys here for supper. Beautiful day.

Jim started police school at Carthage, 8 am – 5 pm. He came home in evening to type up reports. 6 taking course. Freedom March in Memphis led by M L King widow and sons. Merrill went to IOOF. Wrote Vern’s. Worked on Assembly President reports.

Rev. Martin L. King’s funeral. 150,000 people attended. It was on TV all day. Ironed Jim’s shirts. Saw Jim on TV. Sent Lodge report to A Pres. Vivian Fitch. The birds are at the bird house for first.

Rebekahs. I went. Merrill and I cleaned rest of lawns. Look good. Brotherton’s young stock over here tonight already. I finished ironing white shirts. Nice day.

4-H here. All here but Sharon, Cathy and Jeff. Practiced demonstrations and Betty cut out her dress. I went to city for groceries. Got beige pocketbook. Merrill built fence. Sent Easter cards and letters. Oren and Norma Gee flew home from Texas.

Good Friday. Washed my hair. A beautiful day, 71°. Merrill put up bird feeders. Washed. Got Easter cards from Vern’s. Eleanor called in evening. They are coming Sunday. Jim and Jim D came out in evening on cycles. Mom called in evening. Some of them are coming Sunday.

Total eclipse of moon last night. a beautiful day. Jim and Maureen here for supper. Merrill built fence. Made dressing and got turkey ready to roast. Also ham.

Easter Sunday, 80°. I went to 7 AM cantata. 3 choirs sang. Mom, Ken’s, Don’s kids, and Maureen Patchen here for dinner. Jim Bowman and Tom from Canada here for supper. Uncle Roy and Lila and Jim Ashley family here in PM. Jim went after Mom and Kids and took all but Mom and Doreen home. They stayed overnight.

4-H demonstration Days at Indian River School. I went with Donna, Lorraine. Terry got blue ribbons and Hal red. Merrill took Mom and Doreen home while I was at 4-H. I was a room hostess. Rainy in morning, colder. Past Grands at Elsie’s. 15 present. 

Beautiful day. Washed. Did part of ironing. Have headache. Vi and I planned May WSCS meeting. Carrie and Vi cupcakes. Marge, Leila and I sandwiches.

Finished ironing. Merrill rolled lawns. Jim and Maureen here in evening. Jim got new golf clubs Monday.

75°. Merrill started fitting ground. He put up small bird house back of house. Cleaned. Washed rugs. Phone strike started at 3 PM. Toby here in evening.

Town of Philadelphia started working on our road. They are putting in sluices. I went to city for groceries. Got golf set for Steve and Sand toys for Danny. Percy Pratt’s family have a new Opal wagon. Boys came out on cycles in evening. Called kids in evening. Danny is walking.

Nice day. Toby and Karen here in PM. Jim here for supper. Merrill and Jim took tire to Philadelphia to get it fixed. Had a bulge on it. Washed my hair. Made cookies

We went to Vern and Junes’ for dinner. Jim and Rennie went also. A beautiful day. Blanch O’Brian called in evening. Wants staff to go to Tomacy’s Wed. night. I called some of staff. Vi has to have an operation.

Washed. Rained toward evening. Jim came home in evening a few minutes. He got hair cut at Theresa. Merrill worked at ground.

Methodist and Evangelical Churches merge today as United Methodist. Vi didn’t go to hospital. She goes Friday. Ironed. Boys came out on Cycles in evening.

Western show at Kingston. Toby, Karen, Jim, & Maureen went. Rebekahs banquet at Tomacy’s for 4 staffs from District to honor advisors. Freda, Paul, and Marjorie Laduke. 14 present. Vi, Esther, and Marguerite went with me. We came back in time for Lodge. I’m to be acting treas.
