Diary Entry for 10/11/1967

Our installation at lodge. Installed our own. 75 people present. DDP Blanche O’Brien and Margaret Switzer there. Marge Shepherd, NG and Alice LeClair, VG. Merrill went to lodge. Toby here in evening. Lodge gave Vi and I wall plaque.

Friday the 13th. Mom and Eleanor left for Canada about 10;00 am. Martha, Minnie, Diane, Leah, and I went to installation at Lafargeville. Margaret Switzie installed. Merrill and I called at Ronas. Went to city in pm.

Wrote Uncle Berl. Jim sent 3rd lesson to Lincoln. Jim’s first scuba lesson postponed. $30.00 for course. Merrill worked at Lafave’s. Mrs. Hutchinson had breast operation. I went to Westons. Got furnace filters. Sharon Sinclair called about Home Makers club.

Evans Mills Installation. I drove. Vi and Willabelle went with me. 47 present. I was sick in bed all day with headache. Jim put muffler on his car at Westons. Merrill worked at Lafave’s. Donna here.

Carthage Installation. Gave Vi and I swan. Terrible rains with thunder storm. Roads flooded. Carthage lodge meets in Grange Hall on Budd Street. Merrill worked at Bob’s all day. Merrill got copy of birth certificate from Albany. His name is Vernon Merrill Tryon on it.

Snowed in some places today. Esther Taylor’s anniversary, 32 years. Theresa’s Installation. Just Theresa and Philadelphia there. I went alone. Rainy all day but cleared in evening. Merrill worked at Lafave’s. Vi and I got dish rack from Theresa Lodge.

I went to city for groceries. Jim got out of work at 2:30. Merrill worked at Lafave’s. I stopped at Charlottes. Their new home is real nice. Donna, Mary, Lorraine, and Roger were here in evening. Ordered turkeys at P&C.

We didn’t go to church. Toby here for dinner. Jim and Toby washed cars at Matts station. Mary Hall here in evening. Toby here in evening. Leonard and Zelda McKeever have bought store back by the church.

Went to Natural Bridge Installation. They only had 7 members there. 29 people present. Merrill worked at Bob’s. Vi and I rode with Jim and Lois. Staff gave me milk basket. Sent Steve birthday card.

Steve’s third birthday. Merrill worked at Lafave’s. Vi, Esther, Leah and I attended Installation at Black River. Rained terrible. We went to Howard’s after. Donna Hall here in pm. Got letter from Uncle Berl.

Moved here 14 years ago today. Merrill took car to Gouverneur to be inspected in morning. He worked at Bobs in pm. Toby here in evening. 2 Hall family kids and Brotherton’s came trick or treating.

Dentist at 9:15 am. One wisdom tooth filled and one pulled. Sears repairman here for dishwasher. Went to 4-H club at Martha’s with Mary. 5 members there. Rained hard. Donna here in evening. Merrill and I went to Anna Reynolds wake in evening.

Snowed hard in evening. First snow storm. Jim’s dentist appointment at 1:30. Wrote Mom and Mother Tryon, and Vern’s. Terrible snow and slippery at the city. Only few flurries here. Got bread ready for dressing. Jim got new snow tires.

Cold. I sent $2.00 for gift for Gerry Cummings Fick and husband from 4-H club. I went to lodge. Washed and ironed. Merrill put up bird feeder. Alice Wood called. Alice Desarmo will give lesson on wills at Sharon’s November 16.

Jim’s dentist appointment to have teeth cleaned. Work is all finished on his teeth. Paid for by government. I went to city for groceries in am. Merrill worked at Lafave’s in pm. I finished washing. Donna here to sew on Lorraine’s dress.

Jim took his car to Trotters for plugs and points. He didn’t work today. He isn’t going in until Monday. Merrill worked at Lafave’s. Dawn Hall, 22 months, ran away and got part way across our lower lawn when Evelyn found her.

Jim had accident coming into Philadelphia from Syracuse. He was not hurt but his car is ruined. He called about 7:50 am from Matts. Fred hill brought car home here. $20.00. Kenny, Toby, Mary and Lorraine here. Merrill finished job at Bob’s.

Jim quit his job at Westons as they wouldn’t raise his wage. He and Kenny took scuba lesson. We got letter from June. Donna Hall and I took 4-H lesson Lets Have a Party at city. Wrote June and Vern. Jim and I went to see about job-Schullers.(?)

Bob Payne’s birthday, 24. Club meeting at Sharon Sinclair’s at Bay canceled. Down to 0° last night. Merrill and I went to city. Went to Fays new store that opened yesterday. We went to church. Board meeting in evening.

Oscar Sellars here in am. Jim went to city to see about truck job but he didn’t get it. Wet and snowy. I got card from Marguerite Beach from hospital. I made 8 pies and cookies. Cleaned. Washed. Jim’s insurance adjuster didn’t come.

Marilyn Hall and Bob Payne’s wedding. Very beautiful and large wedding. Merrill and I went. Cloudy and rainy day. Kenny here to see Jim in pm. Marilyn and Bob have gone to Los Vegas on 2 week honeymoon.

Past Grands at Martha’s 6:30 supper. 19 present. Ham supper. I got birthday gift of hose and handkerchiefs from PNG secret pal. Jim went to scuba lesson. Kenny didn’t go as his back hurt. Jim got report on physical. He will get $17.00 a month disability. 4-H combs came.

The insurance company took Jim’s car to Trotters by wrecker. Jim went to city. Merrill helped Howard put door on barn. Toby here in evening. We called Vern’s in evening. They are coming Friday or Saturday. Got several cards and letters.

Thanksgiving. We went out to Mom’s for dinner. Don’s there also. Vern and June and boys came in evening. Rainy day. Brenda came home with us. She planned to stop at Arlene Brenons but she wasn’t home.
