Jim & Merrill went to Philadelphia twice. Went to auction at LaFargeville also.

Nice day. We went to Wolcott. Vern went with us. Had dinner at Mother Tryon’s. Went over to Elmer & Melba’s. Louie Rappole died this morning. Age 72.

Merrill & I went with Rebekah’s & IOOF to Rappole’s. Washed. Jim didn’t go to school. Cleaned back room upstairs.

Merrill started plowing pasture by barn. I went to Louie Rappole’s’ funeral. Went to Gouverneur but they couldn’t fix car today.

I went to city to sign unemployment. Myrtle Duff rode out. Alex not good. I went to Rebekah’s. Only 19 there. Got control for stove. Baked pies, cake, & cookies.

Raining. Merrill worked at Howard’s barn. I took car to Gouverneur to get starter fixed. $13.35.

Cold today. Myrtle Duff & I went to Mercy Hospital after Alex. He’s been there 3 weeks. Wrote Vern. Merrill worked at Howard’s barn.

Merrill worked at Viola Hall’s putting on doors. Jim went to recreation night. Walter VanTassel came home with him. Kept cows in tonight for first.

Back on standard time. Merrill put in barn windows. Quite cold today.

Merrill finished doors at Halls. Took Alex & Myrtle Duff to Dr. Sickes. Alex has 2nd treatment to remove skin cancer on face. Merrill got shoes & tool box. Washed clothes. Merrill went to lodge.

Got letter from Mom. Have all had flu. Shellacked stair steps. I went to W.S.C.S. at Elsie Bacon’s. 16 there. Baked in evening. Sent birthday card to Dad Tryon.

I went to city to sign for my unemployment check. Mr. Pilbeam called in PM. Merrill plowed all day.

Dad Tryon’s 79th birthday. Merrill went to auction at Coolidge’s at Antwerp. Froze carrots. Jim went to trick & treat at Theresa. Very warm. Wrote Mom.

Quite warm today. Merrill finished plowing meadow by house. Froze beets.

David Bell & Marty Rudes were here for lunch. Jim went home with Marty to stay overnight. Russians sent up 2nd Sputnik. Dog is in it.

Rained about all night. Jim is 5 feet, 5 inches tall. Weighs 110 pounds at age 14. Merrill went over after Jim from Rudes. Rained hard all day.

Cloudy. Washed clothes. Elsie B. & Vi Mowers called. Merrill finished plowing.

Election. Merrill & I voted. We went up to Dr. Young’s office. Dad had 45 ounces of fluid removed. Grandpa Haggerty is in hospital. went Saturday.

Lyle Hall was here for farm bureau. I went to city today. Grandpa Haggerty had operation. Got my first unemployment check. $24.00. Merrill had 3 loads of gravel put in driveway. $26.25.

Aunt Maude & I went to hospital to see Grandpa Haggerty. I worked on Grange supper. Merrill worked on Howard’s barn floor. Wrote Uncle Berle, Vernon, & sent card to Mrs. Hagan.

Very windy & rainy all day. Cleaned & baked cake. Merrill & Teddy [Tryon’s dog] worked at Howard’s.

Jim & I went to city. Jim got boots & hat. We went to hospital to see Grandpa Haggerty. Snowed hard by spell for first this fall.

We went to church. Nice day. Still some snow left. Jim went hunting with 22 rifle for first time. I went over to Allen’s in evening.

No school or mail. Merrill did carpenter work at Ronas. Jim went over to Marty’s. Washed & baked cake. Merrill went to lodge.

Merrill bought heifer from Don Hoover. $175.00. Swell day. Fran called. Jennie wants me to come back to work. Did ironing. Merrill went to Theresa for shingles for barn.

Back to work. Not many girls working. Signed up for last unemployment check.

Cloudy & windy. Grandpa Haggerty went home from hospital today. wrote Uncle Berle.

Rainy. We stopped at Dot & Gordon Allen’s fish market for fish. Bill & Vi were here in evening. Brought down turkey for freezer.

Washed, ironed, baked, & cleaned. Swell day but rained in PM. Jim went to recreation night. I got new skirt & jersey at Pearl’s.

We went out home for dinner. Ken’s came up in PM. Doreen is beginning to walk alone.

Wrote Uncle Berle & Vernon. Merrill started putting siding on front of barn. Merrill went to lodge.

Jim got picture card from Uncle Berle. Evelyn took Terry to Dr. Harwood at hospital about his feet.

My wrist watch broke. Snow flurries some today. Windshield wiper broke this morning. Edna Symonds son Donnie 17, had leg off today.

Fran, Pauline, Edna, Virginia, & I, went to Howard’s for my birthday. They gave me a white sweater. Judy wasn’t there. I couldn’t get wiper fixed at Town Motors.

Got wipers fixed finally. $9.00. Carrie Dunn died today. Jim & I went to basketball game at Theresa.

Got letter from Vernon. Joining Kappa Delta Pi. We went to city. Merrill & Jim got boots, shoes, & rubbers. Howard Hall’s niece got married at Gouverneur. Carl, Gloria, & girls came in evening. Vern was on TV channel 8

Carl, Gloria, & girls, left at 11:20 AM. Carl was sick. Merrill put in cold air register in dining room. I have intestinal grippe. Rebekah’s went in body to Carrie Dunn’s.

I feel punk but worked all day. Merrill started Hank Schell’s barn. Wrote Vernon.

Took out accident policy. $5.00 for 6 months. Fellow came to shop. Merrill doesn’t feel too good today. Roads very slippery in morning. Not bad at night. Cold.

Warmer tonight. I didn’t go to lodge.

Thanksgiving. We went out home. Grandpa & Don’s were there. Vernon called from Oswego in evening. Had dinner at one of his teachers.

Worked today. Swell day. Foggy in morning. Merrill worked at Schell’s.

Rainy. Marty Rudes was here all day. He was going to stay all night but Jim was sick so Merrill took Marty home.

Cold but nice. Jim still sick. temperature of 102°. Terry’s 3rd birthday. Got blue orlon sweater at Theresa for Uncle Berle last night.

Roads slippery in morning. Quite cold all day. Jim didn’t go to school. He is feeling better. Merrill went to lodge.

W.S.C.S. Christmas party at Margaret Waters. I didn’t go. Was to tired. They had 22 there. Jim went to school today. Edna & I went downtown.

Cold. Merrill worked at lodge hall in evening.

Raining. Called Aunt Maude. She is going to make me hanky for Lettie Wood.

Jim & I went to basketball game at Theresa. Good game. Frances Fleming died today. 57.

Took car to Gouverneur to have leak fixed. Came home with 1957 Bel Aire. $2400.00. $900.00 for our car. Marty & Jim went to Chaumont game on bus. Marty stayed all night.
