Diary Entry for 9/8/1999

Raining off and on all day. Times expires. Renewed for 13 more weeks. Elmer’s funeral Wolcott Funeral Home. Jim came out ad got me and we went to Vern and June’s. We had lunch with them and then Vern and June went with us to Wolcott. Vern drove. We went to Elmer’s funeral and his burial at Lakeview Cemetery. We went to Frank and Charlotte McGregors afterward. Good to see everyone. Jim and Nancy brought me home.

Hot and muggy. No rain. Dr. LaPoint 11:30. Lyla took me to city. Dr. L changed my medicine. She started me on hormones for very first time I’ve ever had them. I got my new reading glasses at Sears. Can see a little better with them. We ate lunch at Burger King. We went to see Merrill. He was at Madonna. He wasn’t cleaned up. He had one slipper on and one bare foot. I helped him put on his Teds and bedroom slippers. They haven’t found his lost shoe. Jolie called at supper time.

Partly cloudy. Cooler. Kim from Genesis called about Merrill’s trip to Carthage next week. I called Jim. He went to see Merrill. He couldn’t wear his loafers so Jim got him a new air of sneakers at Avon shoes. Amy here for one hour 11 AM. I called Vi. We had nice visit. Lyla called to say her cancer count is down more and her blood count ups some. Good report.

Raining in morning Cooler I washed clothes. Jolie called in evening. I talked with Zack. Wayne H called to ask if I want to go to Sunday School. He’ll pick m up at 9:30 AM. Linda and Rick took my garbage. Talked with Lyla. We got sympathy card from Patty.

A nice sunny day. Tornado not as bad in Florida as first thought. Is hitting Georgia and Carolina’s right now. Alice F called about Prayer chain for LeRoy Carpenter who was in bad auto accident. Crushed his lets. Jim called twice. He will pick me up at 11 AM tomorrow. I talked with Lyla twice. Marion Carvells sister died Monday.

Pain from Floyd started about noon. Dr. Mirza 1:45. Jim came out and got me at noon. I went with Merrill on the A&E bus to Carthage. The driver was one who used to pick Merrill up here for day care. Jim and Nancy brought me home. He took us to eat at Schulers. He took me to get groceries. Got letter from Nancy and Tom Neal. Got material for leukemia drive.

Cold, cloudy in morning. Sunny most of day. Lyla took me to Dr. LaPoint. Amy here to clean at 3 PM. I called Jolie and Zack in evening. All’s well so far. They have settled on the name, Madison Aubrey.

Cool in morning but a beautiful sunny day. I went to church. Wayne and Nancy came after me. Lots going on at church. 97 out. 12 people joined and 3 renewed. The new sound system dedicated in memory of George Gleason by Gleason family. They were all present. Refreshments after church. Elgin called to say they’d be over October 2nd. Eleanor Henderson went to hospital by ambulance in city. I addressed Leukemia envelopes. Talked with Gloria Collins. She is having knee problems.

Sunny in AM. Showers at supper time. Colder. Someone has been ringing my phone several times today. I called phone company. They can’t do nothing about it. I washed a lot of my good clothes so that I’ll have clean ones for trip. I sent Vern birthday card and $20. Debby called from Denver in evening. So good o talk to her. She is so homesick.

Uncle Vern’s 63rd birthday (an entry written by Jolie) Jim called in morning. Nancy is coming after me after work to go see Merrill. Dan sent Jim pictures of baby Jordan on computer. Jolie called. She’s getting impatient. So am I. Nancy came and got me to see Merrill. Jim met us there. Merrill good today. Cried when we left. Jim brought me print out of Jordan. Jim and I ate at Philadelphia Restaurant. I called Linda to tell her I would be away for a few days. Darcia, John and Brent moved last week to Ballston Spa from Florida.

Raining and cold. Jolie’s due date. I called Times and Post office. Sent check and note to nutrition dinners. Rebekah’s. I went. 12 there. Mary C had 4 state past officers with her. Paid dues $8.. Ginny read a poem I wrote when I was DDP in 1967. Alice F called in evening to say Bob Boschocks father has had a massive heart attack today. Sue is trying to get word to Bob in Bosnia.

Sunny breezy. I talked with Lyla. Jolie called from Fort Lewis. Nothing yet. Amy here to clean 2 hours. She went to store for me. Jim called in PM. June and Vern came after me. We stopped at Charthouse for eye drops. Jim called Oswego in evening to say Jolie was in labor. She went to hospital at 4 PM. Baby Madison Aubrey 7 pounds, 9 ounces arrived at 10:15 PM Washington time. All okay. Baby looks like Zack.

Diary Entry for 9/24/1999

Sunny in morning. Raining later on all day. Jim called in morning. Baby Madison here. We left Oswego for West Virginia at 8 M. We got to Morgantown at 5:30 PM. We stopped at motel and left stuff and then to Dan and Robin’s for supper and to meet new baby Jordan and see Lydia (1 ½). They have nice home. Then after a nice visit back to motel for night. We called Jolie at hospital. She and baby doing great. Madison Aubrey has black hair and looks like Zack. I wish Merrill was with us. I felt it best not to tell him, It might upset him.

A just beautiful day. We spent day at Dan’s. Dan put up flag staff on his porch. Lydia is such a sweet smart little girl. She’s a darling. Also Jordan. We had delicious turkey supper. Back to motel for night. Econo Lodge very comfortable and clean.

Summer weather. We went from motel to Suncrest United Methodist church at 8:30 AM. Services of baptism of Jordan Daniel. Dan and robin and Lydia and Jordan met us there. It is a huge church. I was a nice service. Kids so good. We went out for brunch after at “Park and Eat”. Busy place. Vern’s treat. I treated pizza in evening. Robin made huge banana splits. We said our good byes for a great visit and back to motel.

Great weather all day. We left motel at Morgantown, West Virginia at 8:30 AM for home. We had a good trip home to Vern and June’s. Got there at 5:30. Vern and June went to choir rehearsal. I called Jim. Jolie and baby doing great.

Beautiful all day. Vern taught class in AM. They brought me home in PM. We stopped at Sears to get my glasses straightened (reading glasses) Stopped to see Merrill. Found hi in bed. Vern and I got him washed and dressed. They brought me home after. Vivian was over. They have moved back home from camp. Nancy called. Also Alice F. I talked with Jim. Jolie called in evening. Shawn Michael having problems. He wasn’t to come back to New York. I talked with him. He wants to see me.

Warm and cloudy Merrill pretty good today. He had bad evening. He threw his commode and Mr. Simser’s fan and broke them. Boys paid for fan. Planning meeting for Merrill 10 AM. Wayne and Nancy will take me. Vern and Jim both there. Vern went on to Lowville school for student visit. I took Nancy and Wayne out to eat at Schulers. I called Centennial in PM. Hope says it will be three to six months. I’m 14th on list right now. Lyla is getting tickets for Tracy Bird show on my birthday. It’s in Indian River theatre.

Raining and much colder. Elgin and Carmi called in morning to make sure I got home. Amy here to clean. Not too much to do as I haven’t been home. She went to store for me. She got me card and Nips candy for Carmi and card for Margaret Waters. I sent baby card, letter, and gift $20 to Madison. First Lady Hillary Clinton arrives at Dexter airport from Massena where she spent the day. She spent the night at Dexter. Got check from Heap fund for $35. For some reason. Other folks got one also.

Cold in morning. Sunny windy. Hillary Clinton spending day in Watertown today. Jim called. He’s very busy because of Mrs. Clinton’s visit. Mrs. Clinton left this PM. She was on Hot Line show for 1 hour. She’s good. Lyla was over. She got tickets for Tracy Bird show. $30.00 each. I got check of $367 for SSI.

Nice day. Sunny and some clouds. Lyla was here in AM. Elgin and Carmi got here about 10 AM. Reached home 6:30 PM. Left here about 4. We had dinner and went to see Merrill. Then back here to have cake with candles and ice cream for Carmi’s 72nd birthday tomorrow. Juanita home from Texas. I got letter from Samaritan saying I own them $25 for something.

A nice sunny day. I went to church with Huntress’s. Communion. I didn’t get to Margaret Water’s 90th birthday open house. No way to get over there. Carmi Bowman’s 72nd birthday today. Wrote letter to Robin and Dan. Jim called in evening.

First snow flurries of the season all around us. We didn’t get any here at Philadelphia. Cold all day. Jolie called. Said Madison’s pictures should arrive today. They did. She is so sweet. Wish I could see her in person. I called them in evening. I called bank. Both Merrill’s and my SS checks deposited. I also got $367 SSI but no Medicaid coverage. I mailed leukemia letters plus paid some bills. I talked with Lyla twice. 10-10 alarm fire at 801 housing. I called Margaret K. She has a scanner.

Cold. Partly sunny. Lyla here. I’m going to miss her stopping by . I gave her some Canadian cheese Elgin brought. Nancy picked me up after work and took me to see Merrill. Jim brought me home. Jolie called while Jim was here. June sent 27 pictures taken on our trip. All good. Lydia and Jordan so sweet.

Raining in morning. Sunny in PM. Only up to 50°. I had nose bleed in morning again. I called Cheryl Horton about the mess across the road. Had a nice visit with her and Carl. Carl on couch with heating pad. He goes to therapy for his back tomorrow. I called Robbins about cleaning the furnace and fixing drip under the sink. I brought plants in off the porches. Temperature to be real low overnight. I called Pauline but she wasn’t’ home.

Down to 19° overnight. Sunny day. Rev. Jane called and offered me a ride out to Genesis to see Merrill. Amy here to clean. She addressed Diabetes envelopes for me. Lyla stopped by. Brought me pictures of Elgin and Carmi. Elgin called in evening to say Gilson Strader, 69 is very ill in Ottawa Hospital. Has to have kidney removed. His blood is too thin to have operation. I called Lyla to tell here. I sorted dishes in china cabinet.

Sunny warmer. A great day. Ken and Esther came out to see me. Here for lunch. We went over to Calcium cemetery. They planted tulip bulbs on dad and mom’s graves. So good to see them. They are so busy in the summer with their flee market everyday. They had good summer. $10,000. They brought machine across the road. Hope it means they are going to clean up the mess. I wrote letter to Nancy, Tom and Lori Neal in evening.

A nice day but quite windy. I washed clothes. Donna cut my hair. She wouldn’t take any pay. We had nice visit. Danny Monroe came about 5 PM to work on the mess across road. He says they are going to burn it. Alice F called for prayer chain. Joyce Purcell in Syracuse Hospital with broken blood Bessel in brain. Very ill. Talked with Lyla. Jim called in evening. He visited Merrill last night. Jim was riding bike today.

Cloudy day. Some sprinkles in morning. Wayne and Alice came after me for Sunday School. 44 to Sunday School. 77 to church. Rev. Jane gave great sermon on peace. Monroe’s working across road today. I watched good movie in evening.

Sunny and nice. Lyla’s 72nd birthday. She took me to city. WE ate lunch at Schulers. Then spent over an hour with Merrill. Dr. LaPoint 2 PM. I had blood work done. Also had flu and pneumonia shot. My blood pressure still high 160/80. She put me on a second BP pill. Weighted 148. Vivian over when I got home. She brought over donation for leukemia. Monroe’s are working across street.

Sunny and nice. Lyla took me over town to bank and Big M. Good to grocery shop. I haven’t in ages. Jim called from work. Carla and Michael left Zack and Jolie’s today for home after 6 day visit and getting to know her new granddaughter. The sixth billionth person in world born today in Bosnia. I got more cute pictures from Madison. She’s so cute. So much hair. Agway brought first fuel oil this fall. 87.5 gallons at 99/9 per gallon.

Breezy. A great day. In the 70’s. I went to Rebekah’s with Ginnny. 7 out. Installation is Monday night at Antwerp. Only 24 out to resident’s official visit last week. It was an open meeting. President’s wishes. Esther and Vi at lodge. The Quaker snack bar is closed. Steven’s haven’t met mortgage payments. Rain storm with high wind and some thunder and lightning about 7:30 PM. Didn’t last too long.

The ground white with snow when I got up. Soon melted. Cold wind. 58° high. 28° low. Jim called in AM. Said his dad was at day care today. He hasn’t been going lately. Amy here to clean. She helped me put covering over cellar window that blew off last night. Vivian was over. Brought me 5 dollar donation for Diabetes fund drive. Also a small cowboy pumpkin.

Great day. Sunny and warm. Lyla called in morning and asked if I wanted to go with her to roast beef supper at church. I’m not going. I put glass in back storm door. Jolie called in evening. They had nice visit with Carla and Michael. Jolie sent more pictures. Hello Dolly show over here at Indian River School theatre. It seats 1500 folks but it looks like they are turning folks away at 8 PM. Big football game going on over there also. The show benefits Jo Rich’s disabled persons organization.

Great weather. Like summer. My house has a lot of lady bugs. Hope they aren’t as many as last year. A lot of them in my bedroom. I put the storm windows down on bedrooms up stairs last year. I did it on a cold snowy day. I got note and pictures from Dan and Robin and kids. I washed clothes.

Raining most of day. I went to Sunday School and church. Sunday school 44 and church 85. Laity Sunday. Ellen C in charge. Very nice. Wayne came after me. Johnson’s brought me home. Zack leaves at 2 AM Washington time for months training in California. Jim here in PM. He brought me BP pills from drug store. He put storm window on breakfast room. Nancy not feeling good with a cold so she didn’t come out.

Very cold overnight. Down to 23°. Nancy came after me after she got out of work and took me out to see Merrill. Jim met us there. He brought me home. Merrill was very sleepy and didn’t talk much. They said he didn’t sleep much last night. I took him some more of his clothes, underwear, pants and PJ’s. I talked with Lyla on phone.

Very windy. The leaves are all blowing off the lawn. An easy way to get rid of them. Raining off and on all day. Jim called in evening. He was up to see his dad but he was sleeping. He is up a lot nights. I listened to Indian River and Watertown high football game on radio. Indian River won 15-14. It is Indian River’s 7th win. They are undefeated. Bob Watson Sr. here electioneering for councilman.

Some showers and cloudy. I washed clothes. Sent Steve birthday card, letter and $10.. Vern called in PM. Nice visit. Game one of World Series tonight. NY Yankees and Atlanta Braves. Yankees won 4-1. Rev. Jane’s 3 kids home for a visit. Carl and Helen Kiechle’s 60th anniversary.

Cloudy. No sun. I went to church with Wayne and Alice. 70 in church. 50 in Sunday School. Jolie called in late PM. Good to talk with her. Madison has a cold. Zack got to call home. He hates being away fro the baby. He may not get home until after his birthday. I gave Sue $10 to fix box for foreign missions. 2nd game of world series, 7-2

Sunny. Very windy. Jim called to ask if I wanted Nancy to pick me up after work Jim brought me home Merrill quite alert when we got there. Jim came soon after I got there. Merrill ate his supper and then got very sleepy. He was in his PJ’s for some reason and missing one shoe. The other shoe was on the wrong foot. He knew us. Route 11 very rough or torn up between Philadelphia and city. They are making it wider and taking out the curves. Yankees beat Braves for 3rd time. 6-5

Mostly cloudy. Cold Very cold at night 25°. Rebekah’s 6 present. Got new password. Monroe’s working at trash across the road. They are clearing out the cellar. The Yankees won World Series with all four games over Braves.
