Diary Entry for 10/1/1999

Cold in morning. Sunny windy. Hillary Clinton spending day in Watertown today. Jim called. He’s very busy because of Mrs. Clinton’s visit. Mrs. Clinton left this PM. She was on Hot Line show for 1 hour. She’s good. Lyla was over. She got tickets for Tracy Bird show. $30.00 each. I got check of $367 for SSI.

Diary Entry for 10/2/1999

Nice day. Sunny and some clouds. Lyla was here in AM. Elgin and Carmi got here about 10 AM. Reached home 6:30 PM. Left here about 4. We had dinner and went to see Merrill. Then back here to have cake with candles and ice cream for Carmi’s 72nd birthday tomorrow. Juanita home from Texas. I got letter from Samaritan saying I own them $25 for something.

A nice sunny day. I went to church with Huntress’s. Communion. I didn’t get to Margaret Water’s 90th birthday open house. No way to get over there. Carmi Bowman’s 72nd birthday today. Wrote letter to Robin and Dan. Jim called in evening.

First snow flurries of the season all around us. We didn’t get any here at Philadelphia. Cold all day. Jolie called. Said Madison’s pictures should arrive today. They did. She is so sweet. Wish I could see her in person. I called them in evening. I called bank. Both Merrill’s and my SS checks deposited. I also got $367 SSI but no Medicaid coverage. I mailed leukemia letters plus paid some bills. I talked with Lyla twice. 10-10 alarm fire at 801 housing. I called Margaret K. She has a scanner.

Cold. Partly sunny. Lyla here. I’m going to miss her stopping by . I gave her some Canadian cheese Elgin brought. Nancy picked me up after work and took me to see Merrill. Jim brought me home. Jolie called while Jim was here. June sent 27 pictures taken on our trip. All good. Lydia and Jordan so sweet.

Raining in morning. Sunny in PM. Only up to 50°. I had nose bleed in morning again. I called Cheryl Horton about the mess across the road. Had a nice visit with her and Carl. Carl on couch with heating pad. He goes to therapy for his back tomorrow. I called Robbins about cleaning the furnace and fixing drip under the sink. I brought plants in off the porches. Temperature to be real low overnight. I called Pauline but she wasn’t’ home.

Down to 19° overnight. Sunny day. Rev. Jane called and offered me a ride out to Genesis to see Merrill. Amy here to clean. She addressed Diabetes envelopes for me. Lyla stopped by. Brought me pictures of Elgin and Carmi. Elgin called in evening to say Gilson Strader, 69 is very ill in Ottawa Hospital. Has to have kidney removed. His blood is too thin to have operation. I called Lyla to tell here. I sorted dishes in china cabinet.

Diary Entry for 10/8/1999

Sunny warmer. A great day. Ken and Esther came out to see me. Here for lunch. We went over to Calcium cemetery. They planted tulip bulbs on dad and mom’s graves. So good to see them. They are so busy in the summer with their flee market everyday. They had good summer. $10,000. They brought machine across the road. Hope it means they are going to clean up the mess. I wrote letter to Nancy, Tom and Lori Neal in evening.

A nice day but quite windy. I washed clothes. Donna cut my hair. She wouldn’t take any pay. We had nice visit. Danny Monroe came about 5 PM to work on the mess across road. He says they are going to burn it. Alice F called for prayer chain. Joyce Purcell in Syracuse Hospital with broken blood Bessel in brain. Very ill. Talked with Lyla. Jim called in evening. He visited Merrill last night. Jim was riding bike today.

Cloudy day. Some sprinkles in morning. Wayne and Alice came after me for Sunday School. 44 to Sunday School. 77 to church. Rev. Jane gave great sermon on peace. Monroe’s working across road today. I watched good movie in evening.

Sunny and nice. Lyla’s 72nd birthday. She took me to city. WE ate lunch at Schulers. Then spent over an hour with Merrill. Dr. LaPoint 2 PM. I had blood work done. Also had flu and pneumonia shot. My blood pressure still high 160/80. She put me on a second BP pill. Weighted 148. Vivian over when I got home. She brought over donation for leukemia. Monroe’s are working across street.

Sunny and nice. Lyla took me over town to bank and Big M. Good to grocery shop. I haven’t in ages. Jim called from work. Carla and Michael left Zack and Jolie’s today for home after 6 day visit and getting to know her new granddaughter. The sixth billionth person in world born today in Bosnia. I got more cute pictures from Madison. She’s so cute. So much hair. Agway brought first fuel oil this fall. 87.5 gallons at 99/9 per gallon.

Breezy. A great day. In the 70’s. I went to Rebekah’s with Ginnny. 7 out. Installation is Monday night at Antwerp. Only 24 out to resident’s official visit last week. It was an open meeting. President’s wishes. Esther and Vi at lodge. The Quaker snack bar is closed. Steven’s haven’t met mortgage payments. Rain storm with high wind and some thunder and lightning about 7:30 PM. Didn’t last too long.

The ground white with snow when I got up. Soon melted. Cold wind. 58° high. 28° low. Jim called in AM. Said his dad was at day care today. He hasn’t been going lately. Amy here to clean. She helped me put covering over cellar window that blew off last night. Vivian was over. Brought me 5 dollar donation for Diabetes fund drive. Also a small cowboy pumpkin.

Great day. Sunny and warm. Lyla called in morning and asked if I wanted to go with her to roast beef supper at church. I’m not going. I put glass in back storm door. Jolie called in evening. They had nice visit with Carla and Michael. Jolie sent more pictures. Hello Dolly show over here at Indian River School theatre. It seats 1500 folks but it looks like they are turning folks away at 8 PM. Big football game going on over there also. The show benefits Jo Rich’s disabled persons organization.

Great weather. Like summer. My house has a lot of lady bugs. Hope they aren’t as many as last year. A lot of them in my bedroom. I put the storm windows down on bedrooms up stairs last year. I did it on a cold snowy day. I got note and pictures from Dan and Robin and kids. I washed clothes.

Raining most of day. I went to Sunday School and church. Sunday school 44 and church 85. Laity Sunday. Ellen C in charge. Very nice. Wayne came after me. Johnson’s brought me home. Zack leaves at 2 AM Washington time for months training in California. Jim here in PM. He brought me BP pills from drug store. He put storm window on breakfast room. Nancy not feeling good with a cold so she didn’t come out.

Very cold overnight. Down to 23°. Nancy came after me after she got out of work and took me out to see Merrill. Jim met us there. He brought me home. Merrill was very sleepy and didn’t talk much. They said he didn’t sleep much last night. I took him some more of his clothes, underwear, pants and PJ’s. I talked with Lyla on phone.

Very windy. The leaves are all blowing off the lawn. An easy way to get rid of them. Raining off and on all day. Jim called in evening. He was up to see his dad but he was sleeping. He is up a lot nights. I listened to Indian River and Watertown high football game on radio. Indian River won 15-14. It is Indian River’s 7th win. They are undefeated. Bob Watson Sr. here electioneering for councilman.

Some showers and cloudy. I washed clothes. Sent Steve birthday card, letter and $10.. Vern called in PM. Nice visit. Game one of World Series tonight. NY Yankees and Atlanta Braves. Yankees won 4-1. Rev. Jane’s 3 kids home for a visit. Carl and Helen Kiechle’s 60th anniversary.

Cloudy. No sun. I went to church with Wayne and Alice. 70 in church. 50 in Sunday School. Jolie called in late PM. Good to talk with her. Madison has a cold. Zack got to call home. He hates being away fro the baby. He may not get home until after his birthday. I gave Sue $10 to fix box for foreign missions. 2nd game of world series, 7-2

Sunny. Very windy. Jim called to ask if I wanted Nancy to pick me up after work Jim brought me home Merrill quite alert when we got there. Jim came soon after I got there. Merrill ate his supper and then got very sleepy. He was in his PJ’s for some reason and missing one shoe. The other shoe was on the wrong foot. He knew us. Route 11 very rough or torn up between Philadelphia and city. They are making it wider and taking out the curves. Yankees beat Braves for 3rd time. 6-5

Mostly cloudy. Cold Very cold at night 25°. Rebekah’s 6 present. Got new password. Monroe’s working at trash across the road. They are clearing out the cellar. The Yankees won World Series with all four games over Braves.

Sunny. Cold wind. Amy went to store for me. Amy Hicks here to clean. Donna Doss RN Director care giver here to make a report. Our church news letter came today. Lots of things going on at church. We will be seeing the year 2000 in with a worship service and party at church.

Another great summer like day. In 70’s again. I washed clothes. Washed my hair and put it up on rollers. A lonesome day. Wish I could have went out to see Merrill. I had small pizza for supper. Good. Jim called in evening. They rode bikes to Finger Lakes region today. A great day for it. Vivian called in evening. Becky had baby girl, 7 pounds 6 ounces, last night. May name her Marlene. Her other girl is 1 year old in August. Clark and Vivian’s new mobile home arrived yesterday. Is located at Colton near their camp. I set the clocks back to Standard time.

Diary Entry for 10/31/1999

Some rain in morning. Nice rest of day. I went to church. Huntress’s came for me. 71 at church. 45 to Sunday School. All saints day. I lighted a candle for Mom and Dad. Also communion. An Egyptian airplane with 214 people on it went down in Atlantic Ocean early this morning. It had just left OK. 199 passengers 15 new. All lost. Joyce Purcell has been moved to Carthage Hospital from Syracuse. I rang my life line my mistake at 5 AM. I rolled over on it. Jim and Nancy here on bike. Two boys here from Mormon’s. Jolie called in evening. Only 4 kids here “Trick or treating”. Laura Wandam Kara’s cute little girls. Kara 13 months a cute little girl. Kara 13 month. Good to see them.
