Diary Entry for 7/1/1998

Raining off and on. Hard at times. Merrill didn’t go to day care. R. Mirza – Merrill 10 AM. Janet VanOrnum from Oxbow took us. She was late and Lyla was ready to take us. We never got home until 12:45. Alice and JoAnne at doctor’s. Alice was admitted to hospital. Vi called in evening. She is still with Martha. I called her earlier. I called Sears Optical to inquire about glasses. The lawyer called about our wills. She will mail them by registered mail. I called Barbara Mc in evening. Merrill went over there last night.

Diary Entry for 7/2/1998

Just a beautiful day. Dr. Mike – Merrill 1:30 PM. Vern and June came about 10:30. They had been to Syracuse for lawn mower parts. Vern filed out reports etc. I got them in the mail over town. He went to bank and got interest posted for me. He and I took Merrill to see Dr. Mike. Merrill’s heel swollen and black but Dr. said it wasn’t bad. Took away his thyroid pill. Norma H here to clean. Terrible fires in Florida. Lots of home lost. Steve T has a new job at BOCES at Mexico.

Another beautiful day. I washed clothes. We got rope back on flag pole. Merrill untied it when he took flag down. He also pulled strings off porch cushions for the second time. I called Lyla to tell her Vern would take me to eye doctor on Monday. The mailman brought our wills from lawyers.

Diary Entry for 7/4/1998

Cloudy and rainy. Rained all day. Jim called from work. Jim M got home from Korea last night. I baked a cake. Jill and Jim here at suppertime. They went over town to 801 to see his Fort Drum Sgt. They are leaving for Indiana for a visit. Jill and Jim will probably be going to Colorado the middle of Sept. Jim goes to Missouri in 2 weeks for 8 weeks training.

Diary Entry for 7/6/1998

Cloudy. Some sun. Merrill went to day care. Jim came out and mowed our lawns in AM. Dr. Sanni 1 PM. Vernon and June came out and took me to city. My left eye pressure is 18 right eye is 12. Got prescription for glasses. Left eye 20/70 right eye 20/40. Ordered all new glasses at Sears. Medicare pays most if it. I only pay $45.00. We stopped at Amish store and got some groceries. Vern and June left for home about 4:30. Merrill came home very upset. Vern brought Merrill new pair of Jobst elastic stockings from Boltons. Dr. Mike prescribed them. Medicaid pays.

Cloudy day. Tina here. Barb Tifft was here with her. Lyla called this morning. Shelly from Philadelphia medical called today Dr. Mike wants Merrill to take new pill prescribed by Dr. Aronowitz of Watertown. I called Jim but got his answering machine.

Cloudy rainy day. Merrill went to day care. I washed clothes. Pearl Buker 83 is dead. She was married to Arnold Buker, Vi’s brother. The 9th year murder of Doug Berry of city solved. Killed by a thief from near Albany. A serial killer.

Sunny. Nice day in 70’s Merrill home today. I sent Jolie birthday card, note, and $10.00, I called Alice Flaherty. She sounded so great and she feel so much better and so happy Great to hear her. Norma H didn’t show up to clean today. I washed Merrill’s navy clothes. Got phone bill for 3 months. $34.80. Lots of long distance calls on them.

Sunny. Cool. Power was off for over 1½ hours in AM. Merrill dusted furniture for me. Jim was out in evening. Brought Merrill’s new pills from drug store. Seroquel. Was prescribed by Dr. Arononwitx. Merrill took first Seroquel.

Diary Entry for 7/12/1998

A beautiful day. Merrill very sleepy this morning and most of the day. We didn’t go to church. I called Lyla to tell her Jim is taking me to city tomorrow. Jolie, Shawn Michael, her neighbor Jessica, and little girl Alexis, 2 years old, here for supper after Jolie got out of work. Jolie took me over town for groceries after supper. Girls left about 6 PM.

Cloudy in AM. Sunny in PM. Merrill went to day care. Van didn’t come for him until 9:15 AM. Jim came out and took me to Sears for my new glasses. It’s so great to see so much better. I can see at a distance so much better. Jim said he had all his apartments occupied. Jolie called. She’s sending my sneakers out with Jim. Jim came out in evening and mowed the lawns. They look so nice. He brought white leather sneakers from Jolie 9 ½ medium. Fit just right. Merry Hull Norma Henderson’s sister died Friday. She was 52. She’s Tiny Hull’s mother.

Diary Entry for 7/14/1998

Sunny and hot. I shampooed kitchen and bathroom and hallway carpets. Hard on my back. They look much cleaner but need a second cleaning as they were so soiled. I vacuumed them in evening and they look great. I called June and Vern in evening. They are getting ready for a two day garage sale. No dinners brought in as it is their annual picnic at Wescott Beach.

Sunny and hot. Merrill went to day care. I shampooed living room rug. A very hot job but it looks much cleaner. Dining room yet to do but I’m waiting for a cooler day. Clark and Vivian home today to mow lawns. I washed clothes.

Another hot day but a nice breeze today. I washed Merrill’s fuzzy blankets. Good day to dry them. Jim called in PM. The air conditioner was broke down and he was baking with the heat. The windows don’t open. Norma H was here to clean. She went to store for me. Took my cans. Jolie called in evening upset about her day. She called back after Him had been to her house to say Sue and Jim had had a break-up after many years. I called Jim when he got home.

Cloudy, hot, no rain. Merrill went to day care. I called Jolie. She thinks Jill has a problem. Lyla called in PM. She’s going to take my trash tomorrow. Pauline and Margie have been to see her.

A little cooler. Breezy 77°. I washed white clothes. Lyla took us to dump with our recyclables and garbage. She said Edna Fikes passed out at Quaker Snack Bar (With ladies having coffee as usual this morning.) I cleaned floors. I called Vi to tell her about Edna. Julia had a baby girl. Julia Jean Ward born July 15. 6 pounds, 12 ounces. Jolie called. She went to Guthrie with asthma attack in night. I called Jim at work. Nancy H called offering us a ride to church in the morning. Vi called in evening.

Diary Entry for 7/19/1998

Sunny nice breeze. In 80’s. We went to church. First time in 4 weeks. Wayne and Nancy came after us. We came home with Bob and Glenda. 35 out. A nice message by Jan Liscomb. Edna Fikes coming home from hospital today. Had spell not a heart attack. Wayne, Nancy and Andy are leaving today for a trip to see Amanda and husband in Wisconsin. Will stop at Buffalo College where Andy will be going this fall and also visit Rev. Carol Berry in Ohio. Jolie, Alexis and Jim, Ashley and Shawn Michael came for lunch. Jim went to Big M and got loads of stuff for lunch. Ashley said her mother and dad had separated. Zackary called about 6 PM but Jolie had left. All in all an enjoyable day. It was so great to see around church again. I could see pulpit again with new glasses.

Rained some early this morning. A very hot day 83°. Merrill went to day care. I called Philadelphia Medical Center to report on Merrill’s Seroquel medication results. I washed white clothes. Jim and Walt Prow came out and took our car to Cliff’s to get it inspected. They didn’t have time to stay for supper. Merrill picked a few green beans from his garden for first.

Another hot day. Nice breeze. Merrill went to day care. Jim is on TV this morning about his neighborhood watch meeting last night. I sent back statements (checking) to Social Security office. Clark and Vivian home to mow lawns.

Partly cloudy. Not as warm. Rained in evening. Windy 81° Merrill home today. Norma here to clean. Juanita and Donnie here for dinner. Left about 5 PM. Donnie on vacation. Goes back to Indiana Sunday morning. Lyla came over. A nice day together. Bill Gliesner’s wife Carmal, 43 killed in tractor accident over here working on school athletic field with Bill last night at 11:30 PM. She was riding on fender. We heard all the action. Crystal called in evening looking for Juanita and Donnie. Fern Pheherbor, (?) 90 is dead. Lyla said her son Jerry bought a pair of ostrich for $80 each. Jim and Walt here in evening. Brought my pills.

Diary Entry for 7/24/1998

Cooler. Great. Quite windy. 73°. Merrill went to day care. I washed clothes. Woman was here taking census. Merrill didn’t find his nice white cap today. Jim got it for him. He loved it. There was a shoot out at the US Capital building this afternoon. 2 police officers killed. One tourist injured. Gunman wounded.

Still cooler nice. Good to sleep. Up to 75° in PM. Merrill upset in evening. Trying to get the chain locks off the doors. We had popcorn in evening. I watched a movie on TV. Merrill paced the floors.

Nice day. Breezy 76°. We didn’t go to church. Merrill slept in our bed with me most of the night. First time in a bed for him in months. He took the padlock off the kitchen door. I didn’t miss it until this morning Now he can’t remember anything about it or where it is. Jolie called from work at 6:30 PM. Jim and Walt stopped in to see Jolie as we talked. I watched another good movie this PM. Merrill outside most of the day. Today would have been Don’s 75th birthday. Vern called in evening. Dan, Robin and Lydia here this weekend. Robin isn’t going to teach this year.

Diary Entry for 7/27/1998

A nice day. Merrill went to day care. Vern and June and the Jackson’s from Camden leave at 8 AM for trip to Vermont until Thursday. I wrote Dan and Robin. I sent him clipping of kayak weekend on Black River. Also sent wedding decline to Pat and Rebecca. Jim came out in PM and mowed lawns. They look great.

Diary Entry for 7/29/1998

Thunder storm at 2:30 this morning. Merrill went to day care. I cleaned dining room closet. Chad Dudley here in PM. Dorothy LaClair, Evelyn Shippee, and Arlene Decker (Barker’s girls) here in PM. First we have seen them in years. So great to see them. All in their 70’s now. Jim picked Merrill up at day care and brought him home so he could see them. Zackary called from West Point in evening. He’s getting home sick but won’t be home for two weeks yet. Jolie called. She got another job in coffee shop in mall. Jill has told Jim M she isn’t going to Colorado with him.

Cooler. Nice. I called Lyla. She will take me to city Monday and Wednesday. Norma H here to clean. Pauline R called in evening. He has been at Art and Doris’s for a few days helping them move. Art hurt his back July 17th and is in bed. Goes to chiropractor for treatment. I trimmed Merrill’s hair in evening.

Diary Entry for 7/31/1998

Cool sunny. Merrill went to day care. They forgot him until I called them. It was 10 AM when they got here. I washed Merrill’s work clothes and PJ’s. I talked with Doris and Pauline. I gave Pauline a watermelon pickle recipe. I called Lyla and we ended up going over to Art and Doris’s. Art in pain. There new home is just beautiful. So large. Jim called in evening. He was at Jolie’s. They were having Chinese good for supper. Zackary is coming home tonight for weekend.
