Diary Entry for 4/1/1989

Still snowy and slippery. Elwin (Stubby) Groves, 77 killed near Talcott Falls last night. Washed clothes. Merrill cleaned driveway. 2 cardinals at bird feeder. So pretty with their red against white snow.

Fast time at 2 AM. We went to Sunday School 37, and church 41. Collin changed part of service to comfort the Gleason’s and H Hall’s. Very touching and nice. Got Girl Scout cookies. Thin mints. Lazy day.

Dr. Sommers, 11:45. Teeth cleaned, $23.00. Sunny day but cool. Merrill washed car. We went for groceries in AM. Patty called in PM. Talked for over an hour. Bob B took down sap buckets. He made 3 gallon of syrup.

No school this week. Washed clothes. Merrill cleaned lawns and sanded rust on car. I put filler on kitchen sink and wash basin. Drain still frozen on wash basin. Merrill took off storm windows.

Back to 34°. Cloudy with sun in evening. Got letter from Mr. Jackson. No record at County Records of Ridsdale subrogation with 2 FHA. [subrogation definition – subrogation is the substitution of one person in the place of another with respect to a legal claim so that the substituted party gains the rights of the original.] Collin was here in PM.

Sunny, but cool. Sent letter to FHA asking for copy of Subrogation agreement made 6/14/79. We cleaned back room and porches. Merrill washed them all. We went to Bible Study. Frogs hollering for first this spring.

Sent Uncle Len birthday card for his 95th birthday tomorrow. Sent card to Esther Taylor. She had hip operation. We went to city and out to Don’s. There for supper. Talked with Ken. Stopped to see Roy. Stopped to see Aunt Maude in morning.

We cleaned bedroom and living room.Got long letter from June. They have new lawn mower. June is going to teach 3rd grade in the fall. They had lunch with Billy Graham at Rotary meeting in Syracuse. Ginny and I went to Lodge.

Sent Kathy card, letter, and $5.00. Merrill got sink drain unplugged with Belile’s snake. Washed living room draperies and put them up. Downstairs all cleaned. Upstairs yet to do. We went for groceries. We cleaned upstairs.

We went to Sunday School 44, and church 49. Harold Curtis spoke on the Gideons Bibles. Jim, Jill, and Sue here for supper. We went down to see new houses. Billy Graham crusade closed in Syracuse. Twice the weekly attendance of 106,000.
