Diary Entry for 12/1/1978

Called Marg at hospital. She has cancer. Esther Taylor here to help make cup cakes. We made 139. Esther here for lunch. Merrill went to get her. Snowed hard in AM. I got B-12 shot from Marilyn. Merrill started Esther’s snow blower. Got letter from Pauline Cornish. All well at Wolcott.

Lindsey Griffin wedding to Len Myers. Esther, Sina, Margaret and I served refreshments. Joyce gave us poinsettia plants. Got first Christmas card from Ponzi’s. Merrill helped draw hay at Horton’s all day. Wrote Dot. Got letter from June. Power off in evening.

Wrote Vern’s. Went to hospital to see Marg. She has temperature so may not have operation. Aunt Maude went with us. Got package from Penny’s. Also 2 boxes from Montgomery Ward. I am getting a cold. Administrative Board meeting. We went.

Got card and $10 from Dot Medina. Called Dr. Roberts. See him on the 18th. Continue B-12 once a week. Merrill worked at Howard’s in PM. Got B-12 shot. Got groceries. I baked cakes and bread. Sent Roy card. Sent light bill, $70.77.

Freezing rain last night. Put up rest of decorations. Got package from Sears. Merrill went to Mills for chain saw. Cost $20. I’m very achy all day. Movie at church but we didn’t go. Called Mrs. Cameron. Marg not good she said. She is still in ICU.

Our 43rd anniversary. We went to city. Marg still in ICU, 1 week today. But they are moving her to room 435 today. Finished Christmas shopping. Saw Jim at Woolworths. Snowing terrible at city. None here.

Diary Entry for 12/12/1978

Merrill worked at Halls all day. I got Uncle Berl and Dots package ready to send. Wrapped some gifts. Addressed cards in evening. It is in tonight’s paper about Jim’s composite kit of hold up youth. Also Jim’s picture of kid. Warmer tonight. Esther called asking me to collect for Cameron’s gift.

Sent package to Uncle Berl and Dot, $3. Sent first cards. Merrill took them over. Rebekah and PNG’s Christmas party. Had supper at 6:30. 20 present. Lyla saw Marg. She was having x-rays for upset stomach. Merrill got tree at Fargo’s, $2.50.

Got note from June. We set up tree. Decorated it. Got last of cards and letters ready in evening. I cleaned living room. Merrill did rest of house. Merrill used his snow blower for first to clean by mail box.

Jim and kids came for rest of wood. Patty Christmas shopping. I finished wrapping gifts. Bob Griffin here in AM. I made fudge. Got Jolie, Jill and Joel’s pictures, so cute. A beautiful day. Gary B got home from Germany. Washed.

Dr. Robert’s, 12 noon, $19. Blood count is up to 11. Took blood for CBC at hospital. Aunt Maude is in hospital. Marg still there. She has infection. Had lunch at Ken’s. Called Don’s. M Landis brought Christmas cookies in evening.

I helped pack shut in boxes. Gave to 29 people this year. Merrill, Vi and I delivered around Philadelphia. Joyce here in PM. Brought us donuts and cookies. Got card and poem from June, Vern and boys. They didn’t take any tests of Aunt Maude today. I called Cheryl in evening.

I sent lst of Christmas cards today. Will write Decker’s in Brazil later. Called Cheryl. Aunt Maude is about the same. Marg also. I made 4 loaves of pumpkin bread, 1 white bread and muffins. Freezing rain in evening.

We got home today. Sun out at Oswego but run into snow at Port Ontario. We had lunch with Patty and kids. Snowed hard from Sackets to Calcium. Clear here. Merrill cleared driveway. I called Beulah in evening. Marg better. We didn’t’ stop to see her as it was too stormy.

Warmer. Drain working this morning. Made fried cakes for first in months.I used to make so many for Mom. Washed throw rugs in laundry room. Jim, Pat and kids here for supper. Marg is still at hospital. Hal Mark Hall’s 20th birthday. Washed my hair in evening.
