Diary Entry for 1/3/1977

I wrote Uncle Berl. We went to hospital all day. They moved Mom to room 433. They gave her unit of blood. I saw Dr. Myerdericks. Aunt Keitha real bad. Temperature 104°. Bonnie Hag in Mercy. Doris called. Got tax notice, $439.72 up $42.97. Snowy and slippery.

Aunt Keitha got to Mercy late. UMW Marguerites. I didn’t go. Don called. Snowing hard up there. Merrill got manure spreader going again. Cleaned barn. We didn’t go to hospital. Roggie’s and Eleanor planned to go.

Sent Ken card and letter. We went to hospital in PM. Had supper with Patty and kids. Jim working. Don, Marg and Roy in to see Mom. Aunt Keitha came on Thursday flight to Mercy hospital last night.

Still cold but sun out. June and Vern called in morning. Everything closed in Oswego because of storm. Jim, Pat and kids here for lunch and supper. Blowing snow in evening. I called Mom in PM. She sounded good. Rev. David there.

Dr. Sommers, 2:15. David Johnson here in evening to fill out report. Brenda in hospital, dental work. Carl and Evelyn leave for Florida. Stormy south of here. we went to hospital. Aunt Maude went with us. Mom good. Nurses gave her flowers. Called Dilly, Aunt Keitha very weak. Percy Ball, 74 died of heart attack.

10° below in morning. Wrote Bowman’s and Uncle Berl. I took church books to Virginia New. We got groceries. Anne Eggleston is going to be horse project leader for 4-H. Jim goes to Albany at 4 PM. Tom Dawley’s graduation tomorrow, police dog, Fox. Merrill got hair cut at Theresa.

Took 19 pounds aluminum to recycle truck. Got $2.23. Went to see Aunt Keitha. Mom can go home first part of next week. Called Don’s. Katie Dewey showed me how to take care of Mom. We stopped at funeral home for Mr. Ball at Mills.

They had a bad fire at Theresa after midnight. Frederick’s funeral home, Kelly and Holts Maytag store. We went to Sunday School and church. We went to hospital in PM. Snowing at city and Adams way. Bad again. Mom talked with Aunt Keitha.

Merrill went to Theresa. Ordered water tank. We went to city. Talked with Dr. M. Mom can go home tomorrow. We went to Sackets. Jim’s were setting up new Ben Franklin stove. got groceries at Philadelphia.

Joel started walking alone today. Patty called. Jim not home yet. Went to work last Friday at 4 AM. UMW canceled. Merrill shoveled out scoop. Cleaned driveway. Hall’s milk went today for first since Wednesday. Farmers plowed road, Got gallon of milk from Halls.

IOOF installation at Theresa was postponed. County nurse called. Merrill and I went to Philadelphia to get permission to go get B-12 shot at Marilyn’s. Got mail and groceries. Sent letter to Ken’s. Merrill plowed out mail box. I took pictures of snow.

Thursday. Mail went for first since last Friday. Antwerp plows opened rest of our road. Merrill went to Philadelphia. Wrote Bowman’s. Stormy again in PM. County driving ban back on at 9 PM. Called Patty. Jim got home Tuesday and Wednesday. Mail went today.

Down to zero early in AM but a nice day. We went to Philadelphia for groceries. Merrill shoveled minister’s garage door. I cleaned refrigerator at church and unplugged it. Merrill set church hot water heater back to 148°, was 165°

Cold in morning. Merrill went to Sunday School and church. 55 out. They started drive for insulation. Jim, Pat, and kids here for dinner. Jim out of work with sore throat. Called Don, Bowman’s called. Olive in hospital, heart. Nice today. Donnie Alton here. Wants to rent barn. Got letter from Ken’s. Nurse Wood here.

Cloudy. We went to city. Got Mom box of bags, $20.15, first ones. Merrill stayed with Aunt Maude. Ate dinner with her. Lodge at Marguerites but I didn’t go. Looked at insulation at Nichols for church.

Edna Hockey called to say Aunt Cora Cross died last night. Gladys Lamon called also. Called Pauline Cornish, Also Vern’s. Merrill ordered insulation for church, $329.30 at Nichols. We went out to Mom’s. What high snow banks.
