Diary Entry for 8/1/1974

Dr. Roberts, 3:30. He called and I went at 1 PM. We went to Fays. Ate at Carrolls. Larry was sick in night. I woke up sick. Merrill and Larry got load of hay in PM alone. Beulah H went to Syracuse with Adderley’s. Got letter from June. Sent in film. Got 50 # potatoes at Johnnies, $4.50

Cloudy in AM. Hot in PM. Drawed 2 load of hay. Went to Philadelphia for groceries. Sent Marva card at Mercy hospital. Got note from Dot Medina. 1800 bales in barn. Roy Petrie called about hay. Talked with Aunt Maude twice.

We all went to church. Communion. Larry’s first communion. We took picnic lunch and ate by St. Lawrence River. Patsy went with us. Rained terrible after lunch so we got home about 2 PM. Boots went with us.

I wrote Andy at Camp Aldersgate. Larry wrote Jennifer Bush. Craig Bening here to see Larry in PM. Also Patsy. Merrill built fence. Got wet. Rained hard in PM. Vi, Martha, and kids here in evening. Brought back bed rail. Cheryl called in evening. There is a Pastor Parish meeting tomorrow night.

Andy’s 13th birthday. Pastor Parish meeting, 7:30. Jim McEtherin was there. A sad meeting and a sorry affair. Brenda, Mark, and Robin here in PM. Got letter from June. Evelyn sent over beans and beets.

A nice day. Merrill mowed and raked hay. We only drawed one load as we got stuck coming across field. Petrie’s started haying here. Got a flat tire on baler. Pat’s plastic twine wouldn’t work so he couldn’t bale. Dawn here about all day.

President Richard M. Nixon resigned. Gerald Ford sworn in as 38th President of United States. First time in history a president has resigned. Sent Holly card and wrote Vern’s at Wisconsin. Merrill mowed all 3 lawns. I washed clothes. Dawn here all PM. Merrill mowed hay. Mowed away yesterday’s hay in AM.

Horse show at Theresa. A huge crowd. Show lasted until midnight. Over 1 50 entries. We went to church. Went to horse show in PM and evening. Larry and Dawn went in evening. Lila and Jerry brought Larry home. Church picnic and baptism at Taylor’s camp.

Holly’s 14th birthday. PNG’s at Diane’s. Marguerite, Mary and I on with her. Cookies and Jell-O. Jim, Pat and Jolie here for lunch and supper. Helped hay it. Dawn and patsy here most of day. Drawed 2 load of hay. Started filling small mow.

Nice day. Merrill mowed last of hay, 3 acres. We drawed 2 load. Merrill raked in evening. Larry, Boots, and I went to Philadelphia for groceries. Got Larry Mexican Jumping Beans, 39 cents for 4. Hall’s baled their hay. Petrie’s are about finished here.

Rained all day. I washed bedding. Merrill mowed away hay and unloaded load. Vern’s stopped for supper on way home from Canada trip. Brought us cheese from Wisconsin. Lyla here but Larry didn’t want to go home with her. Pat was over in evening.

We went to church. Went to Jim’s for lunch. We all went to Ken’s. Roberta, Bill and Luke there also. Saw Luke for first time. He is so cute. Called Mom from Ken’s. Jim’s on vacation for 2 weeks. We went over to Bill and Brenda’s in evening. Dawn too.

We went to Mills and city. Ordered part for dishwasher door. Brenda gave us beans to freeze. I froze about 15 boxes. Washed clothes in morning. I rained in PM and evening. Dawn was over in evening. Larry over there also.

Larry has been here 5 weeks. A nice day. Hot. Merrill mowed the lawns. Larry went to Vacation Bible School at Evans Mills with Helen and Jenny Bush. Spent the PM with them riding horses and swimming. He had a great day. I washed rugs. Dawn here.

Real hot today, 88°. Merrill built fence. He went to Mills for fence posts in morning when he dropped Larry at Bush’s. Merrill got 15 posts. Larry went swimming with the Bushs’. Ate supper at Black River with them.

Roberta and Bill’s 1st anniversary. Karen’s 10th birthday. Very hot all day. Larry went to last day of Bible School. We all went in evening. Dawn went with us. Got bushel of peaches from Amish, $6. Got corn from Halls @ 70 cents dozen. Sent Uncle Berl pictures. Wrote Dot T.

Canned 4 quarts of peaches and froze rest of bushel. Patty helped. Jim’s here for PM and supper. Also puppy Daisy. They went over to Hall’s in evening. Merrill built fence on line. Lyla came after Larry for weekend. Washed my hair in evening. Cooler and cloudy. Joanne Pastor had baby boy.

Beautiful day. We went to church. Met Jim’s at City Hall. Ate lunch at Kays on way out to Mom’s. Stopped at Beulah’s new home but she wasn’t there. Stopped at Mary’s. Aunt Keitha is out there to stay a week. Lula brought Larry back, Jerry also.

Sent Vern’s anniversary card. Lila came after Jerry in evening. Dawn and Patsy here to play. Merrill built fence. I washed clothes. Dawn here for lunch. Marguerite and Aunt Maude called in evening.

Rainy, cloudy most of day. We went to Mills. Stopped at Art and Doris’s on the way. Betty is going to have a hernia operation. Merrill and Larry went over to Bill’s in PM to put on corn head. I baked pies, cakes and cookies.

I called Dr. Roberts. Loren was killed 30 years ago today. Jim enlisted in air Force 12 years ago today. Merrill worked at fence. Larry gave his hamster to Patsy. I took Larry to Philadelphia. He went to Gary’s birthday party. Lisa was over for report.

Larry called in morning and said he was staying with Chris today. Boots and I went to Philadelphia for groceries. I took peach pie and cookies to Parsonage. Marva coming good. Merrill cut brush, fence. Barn cat died. Hall’s Smoky.

Got letter from Dot Medina. Got dishwasher door strike. Merrill finished fence. Pat B helped him. Washed clothes. I have headache. Jim Ashley and boys came after Larry’s things in evening. Jim called. They were going to Rochester tonight. Had been to Canada and Adirondacks.

Got school tax notice, $375.38. Rate $41.26 assessment $9100. Up $46.80 over last year. Howard borrowed grain elevator. Merrill mowed all three Lawns. I cleaned sides of walk. Rained in PM. Washed my hair. Got letter from Beulah Hall. She went home over a week ago.
