Diary Entry for 6/1/2004

Partly cloudy. Not much sun. Shirley gave me permanent. $30. I paid my rent $50. Juanita called. She is going to Dorlands for a week and a half. He was picking her up at noon. His daughter is getting married. Kay Delaney very ill now. I talked with Jim. He was at Vern’s yesterday. Vern a little better. Vi fell in her apartment and bruised her shoulder.

64° and 50°. Partly cloudy. I took the paper up to Vi. Debby from Dr. LaPoint’s office called my blood count not okay yet. I’m to continue Procrit shots. I washed clothes in PM. I went to play Pedro but table fell on my big toe and it bled for four hours. I talked with Vern and June. Jolie called. They are moving tomorrow and Friday. Diane and Vi here. Diane put clean bandage on my toe.

Some sun. A few showers. I called Dr. LaPoint’s office and they said to come in at 10:30. I took a cab there but Jim was there to get me. He took me to Dr. Gosslin on Coffee Street. He removed my toe nail. Vi here. Also Florence and Rose and Lee. Hope called me I called Vi and Bushes. Also Jim this morning. Cheryl called in PM. Jolie called in evening. They got partly moved today. Will finish tomorrow.

Mostly sunny day. The visiting nurse here to dress my sore toe. Will come each day until I go back to doctor. She called for prayer chain. Jim called. Florence and Vi here. Former President Ronald Reagan age 93 years died today of Alzheimer’s. He was president for 8 years. Our 40th president.

Nurse Bonnie here at 7:30 to change bandage on my toe. I went to church out here. Beautiful singing and message. Vi here for paper. Florence brought me piece of rhubarb pie. Very good. I talked with Diane. Lyla called. Also Cheryl. Lots on TV about 50 year anniversary of D-Day. Also President Reagan’s life story. D-Day beings back many memories of Loren Tryon. He died in France August 28th, 1944.

A great day. Nice breeze. Nurse Alice here to dress my toe. Doing okay. I went to Dr. Sanni. They did field exam. Will be doing it every six months. My eye pressure up a little. 18 and 15. He also took a suture out of my left eye as it was giving me trouble. Angie stopped by. Also Vi. I went to Centennial meeting in evening. Last meeting until September. Hope said we have a man Jeff, and his 8 year old son living here an on call nights. Kevin leaves the last of June.

Warm day. Nice breeze. Lots on TV about Reagan’s viewing at his library. 1000 people an hour. Vi here. Also Angie. Nurse Alice dressed my toe. Afghan leader President Hamid Karzai visited Fort Drum soldiers today at Fort Drum. Islanders sang for us in evening. They are so great. I talked with Jim his bike quit on him yesterday. I talked with June. Vern had gone to Rotary. His shoulder still bad.

Another summer day. Rain in PM. Jim Nash called and asked me to get his lunch from Charlie. Lee put in two new bulbs in my kitchen light. Old ones have been in there over four years. Jim took Vi and I to funeral home for Carl K. it was good to see them all again. John and Helen both in power wheel chairs as was Carl before his death. We got plants at Sonny’s and planted them on Merrill’s grave. Vern called. I called Jim. His bike is broken down. He has to get part from Ogdensburg tomorrow. Tornado in Governeur today.

A cloudy day. Alice here early to do my toe. Florence D, Lila B, Helen S, Marion C, Mary D, and I went to Cheryl Ashley’s for a delicious dinner. Clark and Vivian T here while I was gone. Vi here in evening.

A nice sunny day. Cool. I cleaned floors. Nurse Bonnie here to do my toe. Vi, Angie, and Florence here. I watched President Reagan’s funeral on TV most of the day. Makes one glad to be an American.

72° and 41°. A great day. Cool breeze. Nurse Joanne here at 7:30 AM. Marion came to tell me Marshal Thayer died at 5 AM this morning. Lyla, Kathy, and Cheryl were ready to leave for there at that time. Will stay 2 weeks. I talked with Elgin. They will come later in the summer. I called Doris H but she wasn’t home. She called back at 5 PM. Pauline had told her about Marshal.

A few showers. Windy. Nurse Bonnie here early. I didn’t get to church. Jim Nash called to see if I was going. Angie’s daughter brought us a bar-B-Q dinner from Rutland church,. Delicious. I washed clothes in PM as I needed them. Jolie called. Zack’s group came in first at NASCAR race in Indiana. Elgin called again from Canada.

Partly sunny. Thunderstorm in evening at 10 PM. I had a nosebleed in morning. First since last bad ones in October and November. This was just a short one. Vi here twice. She brought me rhubarb from Roy Keichles. They cleaned lobby carpets and painted white lines on parking lots. My toe hurting tonight. It’s singing.

A nice sunny day. Nice breeze. Nurse Kim here to do my toe. She left her small case. She came back for it. Vi here for paper. I didn’t go to exercise class. Florence gave me two more too shirt tops. She has given me six in all. Hope called to ask how my tow was doing. Jim went to New Hampshire today on his new Harley bike.

76° and 50°. A great day. Sunny. Nurses Alice and Bonnie. Vi, Florence and Angie here. Florence gave me fresh strawberries from Belings. 800 Ford Drum solders left for Iraq. Most of them just returned from Afghanistan a short time back 3000 to go in all. Marion called. Marshall’s memorial today in Ohio. I gave myself Procrit shot. Juanita called in evening. She got home from her two weeks at Dorland’s.

a few showers but a great day. Vi and I walked over to Dr. Willis’ and blood lab. My toe didn’t hurt walking so far. Nurse Alice here to dress it in morning. I had an EKG at Dr. Willis’s. The jet planes have been taken off all day from Fort Drum with our 10th mountain soldiers headed for Iraq. So sad to think of them leaving their young families. Some of them will not come home alive. I said a prayer for each plane load. Florence, Vi, and Angie here. I called Vern’s in evening. He’s feeling better.

Cloudy day. Nurse Alice here in morning. She got call her father had a heart attack and was on his way to hospital. Jessie didn’t come. She called and said she would be here Monday to clean. Florence D went to Syracuse doctor. Everything great with her. Lyla called from Ohio. Cheryl and Vicky put a new heating unit in Vicky’s hot water heater. Jolie and Shawn Michael called in evening.

Rain in the morning. Cooler and cloudy. Nurse Bonnie didn’t come until afternoon. Alice’s father doing okay. He has to go to Syracuse for heart cautherization. Rosie and Elmer Gleason’s 50th wedding anniversary part at Philadelphia legion. Vi and I had no way to get to it. Cheryl was going to take us but she is still in Ohio at Vicky’s.

65 and 40°. A sunny day but on the cool side. Nurse Bonnie here about 9:30 AM. A lazy day around her. I watched a NASCAR race from Michigan. Also a rodeo from LasVegas. Both enjoyable. Jim called in evening. He went to New Hampshire one day and came back the next. Marion C called. Lyla and Cheryl coming home Thursday.

73° and 51°. Sunny but cool. Jessie here to clean. She went to the store for me. She dropped the eggs and insisted on going back for more as most of them broke. Nurse Kim here for my toe. Hope stopped by with hall doorstop. HUD inspectors here today. Vi, Andrea, Florence, Sally and Angie here. Angie brought me her plant spray. My cactus has bugs. Nurse Debbie called. My blood count is better.

Some rain off and on. Some sun. Nurse Phyllis here in PM. HUD people here to finish inspection. Sue called for prayer chain for Gordon Vanderbogarden and Tom Morse. Both have brain tumors. I called Vivian. Vi here twice. She brought me a piece of cocoanut cream pie. Good.

A nice sunny day. Nurse Alice here to do my toe. I gave myself Procrit shot. Vi here. Also Sally, Angie here in PM. Avon lady Mary came with my hand cream. Her niece was with her. I mailed June’s birthday card and letter. Florence brought me piece of lemon pie for supper. Very good.

80° and 42°. A nice sunny day. Cool in morning. Nurse Linda here early. I went to exercise class for first in some time. Cheryl was here. They got home from Ohio yesterday. Esther called. Ken having eye trouble. He is seeing double with one eye. They had been to a lawyer (Mitchell). Holly hasn’t paid his taxes in 3 years. Esther signed with ken to save their home. I feel so sorry for them. Vern’s pre op test today. I talked with Jim.

Cloudy, cool day. Nurse Linda here to do my toe. Vern called in morning. All going well. He goes to Syracuse Crouse Irving to give 2nd unit of blood for his own use. I washed clothes in PM. Angie, Florence and Vi here.

Quite cool but sunny. I talked with Lyla. Larry not very good. He’s on morphine for pain. Nurse here to do m toe. It is still draining a little. Vi and Florence in. Angie here at suppertime. I called Jim N in evening. I got thank you card from Vicki.

Another cool but sunny day. Nurse Linda here about 1 PM to do my toe. No church out here today. Milton Lassalle has sore knee. Jim N brought me church newsletter. Florence gave me watermelon for supper. Vi here for Times. I watched NASCAR race from California. Angie, her granddaughter and husband and 5 day old baby girl here in the evening. They are from Governeur.

65° and 46°. Partly cloudy. Still cool. Nurse Linda here at 9 AM. Robert C called in morning. They got here at 11:30. We went to Bob Evans for lunch. Then went to Belings at Adams Center for strawberries and biscuits. We had strawberry short cake before they left at 6:30 PM. A good day together. Cheryl is feeling a little better. She finally got her disability. Vi here for Times.

Still cool. Rain in PM. I was able to take a shower instead of a sponge bath. Nurse Kim here to do my toe afterwards. Angie H went to hospital at 2 PM with back pain. She came home at 7 AM. Linda B called. Also Hazel B. Betty W stopped by. Sue B called for prayer chain for Coby Slate. He hurt his shoulder. Jolie called in evening. Also talked with Madison.

Sunny and nice Elgin called from Canada. They want to come July 9th and 10th. I gave myself Procrit shot. Alice here to do my toe. I played Pedro in evening. Two tables played 5 handed.
