Diary Entry for 1/2/2001

Cold. Some sun. -18° overnight. I paid my rent. $133. I got 2 books of stamps. I will have to add a cent stamp to them next Sunday as postage goes to 34 cents. I went to VIP meeting in PM. I forgot to take my $5 dues. Guest speaker form Medicaid spoke. I called Vern in evening about notice from Social Security. I’m to receive $255. I went to first exercise class of new season.

Warmer today. Feels great. I washed clothes. I packed away Christmas decorations and stored them in storeroom by kitchen. I played Pedro in evening. We had four tables. Juanita called in AM. She has been sick with pneumonia. I got notice I will receive $400 credit from Heap. Goes to Niagara Mohawk.

Snowed overnight. I went to exercise class. Paid Dawn $30. I called Kathy at bank. She said $204, $255, and $250 have been deposited in my name this month. Juanita called in morning. She and Donnie here all PM. They were going to Cindy and Ethan’s for dinner. Jessie here to clean.

A partly cloudy day. Ken’s 81st birthday. I went for coffee and donuts. I cleaned floors. Talked with Lyla. They moved a lot of snow from our front to the back yard. Quite a pile out there.

Cloudy. I went to church with Jim and Sherri. Not over her fly yet. Jim and Nancy here in evening. Brought me 5 Dr. Tim LaHaye and Jerry B. Jenkins tapes. Postage goes up one cent to thirty four cents.

Cloudy but nice day. I had appointment with Dr. LaPoint at 1:15. O rode bus both ways. They are building on to medical building. I called Jim. He was at Post office getting one cent stamps. Centennial club meeting. I paid $3 dues. I saw Lori Buker. All is well at the doctor’s office. She had a by-pass operation before Christmas. She is doing good.

Snowing a little sunshine. Wayne H called in morning to ask if I was going to be home in PM. Wayne and Nancy came about 2:30 PM. They brought me the large print hymnal I used at church. It is in Merrill’s memory. I went to exercise class.

Cold. Dark day. I sorted out old mail in desk. Dr. LaPoint’s office called. Nurse said my blood count is low and I’m to up iron intake to two capsules a day. One in morning and one in evening. I played Pedro in evening. Jolie called in evening. We talked for an hour and a half. Madison still having ear troubles.

Cloudy. Above freezing. I went to church with Jim and Sherrie. We had Sunday school today. Vern and June got here about 1 PM. We went to Bob Evans for lunch. They took me to Kenney for pills. Vern brought me four Zabra pens.

Cloudy day. Raining in evening. Kinney’s brought my Ne-Iron. $40.57 for 100 tablets. Jim called. He and Nancy are taking me out for supper. We went to The Cracker Barrel. Also to the mall and Staples store. Jim bought me winter coat at Sears. Dark gray and long. Lyla called. She has a new TV and stand. Her old one was 19 years old.

Raining. Exercise class at 9:30. Only 6 of us. I received letters and pictures from Steve and Kathy. Card and picture from Calvin and Dolly Congdon, card with note from Mable Hudson. I also received questionnaire to fill out and return for juror duty. I called Lyla.

Cloudy day. Some sun in morning. Exercise class. 9 present. They checked fire alarms all day. Coby Slate called in morning. Alice F called in PM. I got thank you not from Sue for donation to Philadelphia UMC. President Clinton gave his farewell speech on TV tonight.

Cold. Sunny day. George Walker Bush installed as new Republican President of the United States. Richard Cheney installed as Vice President. A rainy day in Washington DC. I went for donuts and coffee in morning. Not as many there. I hand washed some clothes. Jim and Nancy here in PM. Took me to drug store and for groceries. Debby H called from California in evening. We talked for 1 ½ hours. Jolie called right after Debby. We talked until 11:30 PM. Only 8:30 in Washington State.

Not a bad day. Mostly cloudy. Coby Slate here. Brought m two tapes of Jane’s sermons to listen to. Gerry was out in car but wouldn’t come in. She was reading. The Women’s Barbershop group here at 7:30 “Northern Blend”. Very good. A small turnout to hear them. Alice F called for prayer chain for Marie’s friend Debby Norwalk. Her husband was killed while jogging this morning.

Nice day. 30°. I set off alarm in bathroom. Hope came to check. I didn’t know I pulled the cord. Coby Slate called. He’s bringing Alice F out to see me. Jessie here to clean 1-3 PM. I played Pedro in evening.

Snowing all day lightly. I received interest statement from Lisbon bank. They are still digging for people in the ruins of the terrible earthquake in India and Pakistan. Thousands already dead from it. 15.000 to date

Mostly sunny day. I went to church with Sherri and Jim. We stayed for luncheon (Soup and sandwich) put on by the youth group for camp fund. Very good. $5. Juanita called in PM. Vern called in evening. His bedroom project going fine. He has the old plaster torn off. 15.000 – 20,000 snowmobilers at Tug Hill on the weekend.

A sunny, warmer day. I called about tape player to association for the blind. They are sending me another one. I called Kathy at bank. I have to open new account in my name. Kathryn Burt, 88 died yesterday. Her sister, Shirley Douglas, lives in Kingston Canada. I worked as a nursemaid for Shirley in Adams Center when she was 4 years old. She was adopted. They are daughters of Fred and Nellie Reed Burt. I got a sweet note from Robin, Dan, and kids.

Raining. Icy north of here. Exercise class. Nine of us there. I called Jill but got her answering machine. Jolie called in evening. Zack and two other soldiers found the body of a young man on base.
