Diary Entry for 2/20/1996

Marion Quincer’s Memorial at Philadelphia church. We went. Church almost full. Elaine gave good sermon. Debby stopped by on way to work at Carthage. She’s having truck problems. Wanted to borrow our car. Merrill went to see Dr. Mike about his leg. Got prescription for Trental, 6 refills.

Church, Ash Wednesday, Philadelphia 7 PM. We didn’t go. Very foggy most of day. Much warmer. Snow all gone. We went to city. Had some taken off my plate. Got curtain rods, $2.49 each, coffee maker, $12.99, and hand mixer, $12.99 at Big Lots store. Merrill got 2-way drill, $29.95. His birthday present. Sent Dan birthday card, letter, and $10.00.

Dan’s 29th birthday. Got new living room curtains from Blairs. Very nice. Lace eggshell color. Merrill went over after fish and chicken takeouts from firemen. Good. Sent order to Carol Wright Gifts. A beautiful day. No sun, but like spring.

Another sunny day in the 40’s. We put up our Christmas afghan on living room wall, given us by Vern and June. It looks beautiful. So do our new lace curtains. Train derailment of 22 cars near Calcium. Lumber and paper. No one hurt in evening. I discovered I have blood in my urine. A lot of it. Scary.

Leap year. 0° in morning. Up to 20° and sunny all day. Appointment at 9:15 with Dr. Stark. Dr. in hospital, Had Peter Plummer. Had blood work at lab. My blood pressure 186/80. Weight 144. Peter put me on sulfa pills for 10 days. Merrill went for groceries when we got home. I sent check for curtains, $140.00 to Blairs.

Snowed overnight. Everything white again . Still snowing in early AM. Sunny rest of day, 25°. World Day of Prayer at Baptist church. Vanessa Powell was over all AM. Her first visit.

Snowy off and on, 20°. Very bad driving. Communion Sunday. We went to church. 37 out. Power was off in AM, 1 hour. Jim came in PM. He brought Sue, Ashley and Sue’s mother to benefit dance at Theresa for fire victims. Hamilton’s. Called Ken and Esther. They have made 22 gallons of maple syrup. Don not very good. I called Vern’s about 8:30. They had just gotten home from Morgantown.

B-12 shot, 10:00 AM. Snowing some in morning. 4° early, 12° high. Lowville schools closed because of snow. Lyla called. Mr. Van Tassel, 92 died Wednesday night. Funeral Saturday.

Below zero in the morning. Up to 18° later. Sunny all day. Merrill cleaned driveway. Washed clothes. My urine very dark again. Scary. George Burns, 100 died today. A great performer. I sent to Blair for blue dress, size 16, $46.70.

Nice day. Warm at last. In the 30’s. Up to 37°. Jolie called. She is moving to Huntington Heights this week. Talked with Vivian. She’s getting new teeth. Marquette was here selling pies. Ordered pecan, $6.00. Sent David and Kathy sympathy card.

A great day. Temperature 25° and 45°. I was sick all night. Diarrhea. Rebekah’s. I didn’t go. Washed bedding. Sue here for church money. Jolie and Shawn Michael moved to Huntington Heights.

Temperature 25° – 35°. Dr. Stark, 1:15. Hummer. Got B-12 prescription. Merrill got his Trental pills. I saw Peter Hummer. I still have kidney infection with some blood. My cholesterol is 211, up a little. Was 195 last fall. Blood count better some. Merrill went for groceries in morning. Jolie called. Got all moved. Jill and Jim M came out to look at apartment at Wayne’s.

Temperature 15° – 35°. Church roast beef supper. Merrill went over after take outs. Made $777.50. Car to George’s 1 PM for brake hoses (front). George didn’t get back in time to do it. I feel terrible sore and weak. Too much yesterday. Talked with Joel and Jim (at camp) He’s going to see Cliff about a car for us.

Beautiful day. St. Patrick’s Day. We went to church, 78 out. Vi’s great granddaughter baptized. Andrea Nicole and her father Charles (Chuck) McGrath. Whole family present. Martha Meeks has lung cancer. To have chemotherapy. Jill and Jim M here. They rented Drake apartment, $295. Sue here for church money.

Great day. Sunny. Temperature 55°. Jim came after our car in morning to have Cliff look at it. It’s beyond repair. Merrill trimmed evergreen by bedroom. It’s great to see the road again. Jolie brought Jim out to get his truck. Our car is beyond repair. Gas leak and oil leaks. Jim to bring us a loaner tomorrow.

Another great day. 55°. Merrill cleaned out dryer. First time since we have lived here. Jim [Mefford] and Jill here for supper. They brought out some of Jill’s stuff to their new apartment they rented today in Drake’ house across the street. Jim brought us a loaner car from Cliff’s, Chevrolet 1990.

Ground covered with snow again this morning. Melted later on. We went for groceries. Had trouble getting windshield wipers to work. Called Jim and he called Cliff. Lacked a fuse. Called Vern and June in evening. June has a cold. Merrill got cards and letters from Juanita, Beulah, and Bea. Karen coming home on the 25th. It has been 5 years.

Merrill’s 87th birthday. He got lots of cards Ground white with snow again in morning. Sent Juanita card and letter. Jill and Jim M fly to Nevada in morning. Will be married there. Jolie took them to airport. Lyla was over. Brought Merrill raspberry pie. Very good. Talked with Jolie. She has bad backache. Gladys L called to wish Merrill a happy birthday.

Snow still on ground. Jim called in morning to wish his Dad a happy birthday. He had a busy day yesterday so couldn’t call. I talked with Vivian and Wanda Lancaster. Jill Tryon and Jim Mefford married in Los Vegas, Nevada at 4 PM. Vern and June came after us. Here for lunch.

Sarah’s 1st birthday. We went to church at Brewerton with Vern, June and Bea Gehm. Steve and Kathy joined the church. Kathy, Kristen, and Sarah baptized. Everything very nice. Great service. We all went back to Steve and Kathy’s for Sarah’s 1 birthday. Also Merrill was 87 on the 22nd. We watched video of party on TV at Vern’s in evening.

60° Partly sunny. Karen gets to Don’s this evening. Doreen called and invited us to her house Sunday for get together for Karen. Vern brought us home in AM. They gave us their old Microwave oven. It’s larger than ours. Jim, Sue and Ashley here in late PM. Brought Merrill a delicious birthday cake. Jill called her dad to tell him they married Saturday. They have a condominium on the strip in Los Vegas.

Very windy. Snow flurries. Juanita’s birthday. I sent Esther card and letter. I’ve been so tired all day. To much weekend. Niagara Mohawk put on a new meter for us. Old one not working right, so he said.

A great day. In the 40’s. Scott here putting on new back door. A steel door inside and aluminum door outside. Stanley door. Merrill went for groceries. Talked with Jill at Jolie’s. Will move in this weekend.

Sunny and warm. In the 40’s. Merrill took 2 weeks of garbage. I washed clothes. Hung sheets outside. Martin Landaus brought pie from Senior Class sale, Pecan. Merrill went over to see Elmer Hoover about sewer. He’s planning to do it soon as ground is thawed. Merrill saw his first robin this year. Church put on supper for fireman, Cleared $1000.

A nice day. We went to church. Palm Sunday, 75. Got together at Doreen’s for Karen. First time she has been home in 5 years. We went in PM. A great time together. Vern’s and Jim there. Vern and June gave us two nice lawn chairs. Jill, Sue, Ashley, and Jim here in evening. Jim moved kids stuff. Jill washed new bed sheets. They got new queen size bed outfits. Had to remove steps to get it up to their apartment. They spent first night in their new home.

Dr. Parcinski, pressure 14. Donna, 3 PM. Got my hair cut. Raining all day. Snowed in evening. Jill here while we were gone doing her laundry. Jim in field until Wednesday. He got to come home for night. Carol called from FHA. Jill and Jim got phone, 642-1821

Sunny but cold wind. We put new seat on Uncle Berl and Aunt Mildred’s rocking chair. They got it for a wedding present years ago. Jill took Cliff’s car out to be repaired when she went to work. She took Jim our insurance card. I made apple pie. Called Vern in evening. June not feeling good. Talked with Vi.

Sunny but cold. Jill took Merrill for groceries in morning, 9 AM. Merrill has terrible cold. Coughing and sneezing. Dr. Hummer called. Has changed my antibiotics. Talked with Jolie.

Jolie called this morning to say Joel was arrested last night for giving drugs to a 13 year old girl. I dreamed about him and was crying for him in my dream. Vern called. They are all coming Sunday. Jolie and Randy (Medivac pilot) here. Jolie got my antibiotics at Pharmhouse. Jim and Sue brought us new car. 90 Chevy Corsica. Jim changed insurance and got license. Said it was all paid for. We have to find a way to pay him. We have the best sons in the world.

Sunny day. Cold wind. Merrill took garbage. Cliff washed and polished the car. It looks like a new one. Merrill went to store for rolls. We got tables set for tomorrow. Got other stuff ready. Jolie called.

Easter Sunday. It snowed hard about all day. We went to church, 80-90 out. Vern, June, Steve, Kathy, Kristen, Sarah, Jim, Sue, Ashley, Joel, Jill, Jim, Jolie, Shawn Michael, Randy, Merrill and I here for dinner. A great day together. A delicious dinner. June, Sue, and Kathy brought food also. Paul at Ranger School in the south.

B-12 shot, 10:00 AM. Jill was here all day doing laundry. Jim M here in PM. Snow melting fast. Everything so pretty and white this morning. Tree loaded down with wet snow. I called telephone company. They made a mistake on our bill.

Still cold. Had a few snow flurries. Ironed tablecloths and napkins. A lazy day. Jill had to work all day at store. Vi called. Martha still in terrible pain. She goes to Syracuse tomorrow for MRI test.
