Diary Entry for 8/2/1979

Sent fire insurance, $173. Had CBC at hospital. Got groceries at P&C and fruit at Johnnies. Terrible humid and hot. Thunder storms in PM. Power off for 3 hours. Three trailers flattened at Garden Village.

Civic Day at Philadelphia. Lots of things going on. Saw bed races for first time. We went over twice. Very hot. Beulah Hall called in morning. She’s coming Thursday for a few days.

Wrote Vern’s. Merrill mowed rest of lawns. Colder. I froze beans. I went to Cameron’s to get key etc. We went over to Aunt Maude’s in evening. Loren and Vera Strader was there for supper. Adam and Ruth Dorr there too.

Rev. and Mrs. Cameron leave for their son’s in Colorado. Esther took them to Syracuse. Merrill got hair cut. He got window glass and fixed storm windows at CEC. I made chocolate chip and date cookies. Stormed in evening.

Hollis’ 19th birthday. Cloudy and cool. Merrill went to church, 58 out. Rev. Johnson there. Beulah went to Lois and Joe’s for the day. We went to Sackets. Merrill helped Jim on wall. Had supper there.

Beulah called Mr. Bent in Antwerp about cemetery. Nice day. Washed. Beulah and I went to nutrition dinner at Fire hall. Very good. Jim called in evening. We have new neighbors in Whitmore house. Fort Drum family. Whitmore’s moved to Watertown.

Wrote Uncle Berl. Sent car insurance, $158. and light bill, $57.01. Rainy most of day. Merrill fixed light at parsonage study. We canned 7 pints of beans. Beulah cut them up. Vern called. They are coming Sunday night. Ken Hall called Beulah.

Cloudy in AM. Cleared in PM. Pauline Giltz, 85 died at 4 AM. I called Beulah but she was out. Patty and kids here for supper. Vern, June and boys came about 4:15. Had been to Frank Smith’s for day.

Beautiful day. Had picnic lunch. Vern painted chimney. Men got dead limbs out of trees. Looks great. We all walked up to Child’s Falls. We went to funeral home for Pauline Giltz in evening.

Karen’s 15th birthday. We all went to Jim’s. Vern’s too. Boys went home. We brought girls home. Rained about 3 PM so men had to quit work on house. Got siding off and frame work up. Mrs. Morse brought 6 dozen corn.

Merrill went to Jim’s. Vern also came. He stayed all night. Girls and I went to Collins. Cloudy and rainy off and on all day. Froze 4 packages of corn. Got letter saying toll free to city starting October 28th.

Vern and June’s 19th anniversary. Raining. Merrill has cold. Ken, Eleanor, Tammy, Juanita, Karen, Donnie here for supper. Ken’s had been to Canada. Rest to Ogdensburg. Merrill mowed part of lawn.

Rainy, 80°. Muggy, thunder. I made two kinds of cookies and donuts. Merrill cleaned stove oven. I went to Alex Bay with Esther, Lois, and Carrie to Assembly President Marjorie Englied visit.
